Support for Spiritual Wellness: Well for the Journey awarded grant to continue program outreach

In October, Well for the Journey (the Well), a spiritual wellness center in Towson, Maryland, received a $2,025 grant from the School Sisters of Notre Dame’s (SSND) Gospel Fund. The funding will support the development of programs at SSND’s two Caroline Center locations and Marian House, both in Baltimore City.

“The School Sisters of Notre Dame are delighted to support and join with the Well through an SSND Gospel Fund grant,” says Sr. Catherine “Missy” Gugerty, who volunteers at the Well. “While most SSND grants support the provision of direct services to persons who are experiencing economic poverty, we recognize that economic poverty extends well beyond a lack of food, clothing, education, and shelter. We hope that this grant will be a bridge for those seeking well-grounded spiritual nourishment/enrichment, such as the programs offered by the Well, but otherwise could not afford to participate.”

Greg Cochran, the Well’s executive director, adds, “Our relationship with Caroline Center began last year when we offered a program on compassion at one of its locations. We are honored and humbled that through this grant, we will be able to offer additional programs and bring them to Marian House as well.”

“In this collaboration, our desire is to help empower individuals through nurturing the spirit; but we know that in the giving, the life of the Well will be receiving more than words can express. And this is as it should be, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Caroline Center, Marian House, and the Well – breathing life into one another, making the world a better place.”

Caroline Center, a sponsored work of the SSND, is a nonprofit workforce development organization serving women in Baltimore. Its mission is to empower each woman to reach the fullness of her potential through holistic education and career skills training programs. Marian House is a holistic, healing community for women and their children who are in need of housing and support services. It is a safe, sober, and loving environment that challenges women to respect and love themselves, confront emotional and socioeconomic issues, and transition to stable and independent lives.

Now in its 15th year, the Well is reaching out to communities, organizations, and businesses in Baltimore and beyond by taking our wide range of programs on the road via our Mobile Well program.
