SUMMARY:Horizons Men's Group 2023-2024 (Hybrid Program)
DESCRIPTION:“Where else could I go to have such a deep conversation about the spiritual journey with other men?” \nThis question is heard regularly as the Well’s Horizons Men’s group gathers to have honest conversations about how we might live out our spirituality as men in the world – within our daily living. \nPast Horizons’ series have focused on themes such as the deconstruction and reconstruction of faith\, the first and second halves of life\, spirituality and imperfection\, why do bad things happen to good people\, and what can we learn from other faith traditions – just to name a few! \nThe 2023-24 Horizons discussions will be guided by Brian McLaren’s book\, Do I Stay Christian: A Guide for the Doubters\, the Disappointed\, and the Disillusioned. McLaren says\, “There is a way to say both ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to the question of staying Christian by shifting the focus from whether we stay Christian to how we stay human.” So\, it follows that the question\, “Are we living out of the truth of our tradition or from its doctrine\, dogma\, and “supposed to(s)?” is one for all faith journeys. We will use McLaren’s book to guide us into this wider conversation. \nIf you are looking for a community where hard questions are welcomed and explored from the unique perspective of the male spiritual journey\, we have a place for you. Join Greg Cochran\, the Well’s Executive Director\, for a free online information session to learn more about Horizons and see if this community is what you might be looking for – Tuesday\, September 12th at 7:00 PM ET. \nHorizons Men’s Group will meet on the second Tuesday in October and then the third Tuesday thereafter (November – June)\, from 7:00pm-8:30pm ET. Our plan is to meet in-person with the option to “zoom in” for those who may not live close by or for those for whom “zooming” is more comfortable. Come check us out! \nDATE: Tuesdays\, 10/10\, 11/21\, 12/19/2023 and 1/16\, 2/20\, 3/19\, 4/16\, 5/21\, 6/18/2024\n\nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET\n\nCOST: $195  \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here.\n\nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here.\n \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 and Zoom: You will receive an email from Well for the Journey the week of the program\, (usually 2 days in advance) with the Zoom Link. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. If you are unable to find the email\, please search your email folders\, including your spam folder. Thank you.\n\nFACILITATOR: Greg Cochran\n\nFACILITATOR BIO:\nGreg has been the Executive Director at Well for the Journey since 2010. He is a graduate of Clemson University and Southern Seminary. Greg was Associate Pastor at Woodbrook Baptist Church serving from 1988-2022. He also is a program/retreat facilitator and a spiritual companion. SUMMARY:Group Spiritual Direction 2023-2024 with Cathy Rosensteel (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Group spiritual direction is a process in which people gather together on a regular basis to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God (Spirit\, Source\, Creator\, whatever your word is) in all of life. They are seeking support for their responsiveness to God and they agree to support others in that same responsiveness. Three conditions are essential to the life of the group. Members must agree to: \n* commit themselves to an honest relationship with God\n* to participate wholeheartedly in the group process through prayerful listening and response\n* to open their spiritual journeys for consideration by others \nThis contemplative approach to spiritual direction is grounded in the model that originated at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington\, DC. The group is limited to five participants and is facilitated by Cathy Rosensteel. The group will meet both in-person at the Well and on Zoom (During the winter months as as noted below.) \nThis group has space for one new person this year. If you are feeling nudged to give Group Spiritual Direction a try\, please call the Well at 410-296-9355. We will connect you with Cathy so that you can discuss your interest with her. \nDATES (At the Well): Saturdays – 9/9\, 10/7\, 11/11/2023 and 3/9\, 4/13\, 5/11/2024\nDATES (On Zoom): Saturdays – 12/9/2023\, and 1/13\, 2/10/2024 \nTIME: 8:30 – 11:00 AM \nCOST: $250 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Kindled by a week-long silent Ignatian retreat\, she developed a deep appreciation for silence and the Spiritual Exercises. Furthering her interest\, she completed the 19th Annotation of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life. Her work in this area includes leading retreats on finding silence in everyday living and walking the labyrinth. Through private practice\, Cathy is honored to provide individual spiritual direction in the Middle River and Towson areas. \nCathy’s background includes teaching teacher education candidates and directing the Special Education programs at Loyola University Maryland.
