SUMMARY:Sound Soul Weaving: Bridging\, Reflecting\, Discerning\, and Connecting with Self\, Spirit & Community (In-Person Sound Bath)
DESCRIPTION:The practice of sound bathing has gained popularity recently but is actually a healing practice that is thousands of years old with deep roots in cultures around the world. Jenny Ehrhardt has been facilitating sound offerings for the past two years\, incorporating her first love as an herbalist into all that she offers. Integrating sound using crystal chakra bowls\, bells\, song\, and rattles with plants and sweetness from the earth\, opens our hearts and nourishes the soul for the healing of the world. What a perfect combination for the Well community and all who seek soul nourishment and healing for self and others! \nJenny will offer a time of stillness\, sacred listening\, reflection\, and alignment with spirit in the safe and sacred space of the Well. Being able to go deep into yourself while also being in community allows us to take care of ourselves as well as send love and peace out into the world through our vibrations\, prayers and the collective spiritual intention of a sacred community. \nWe will begin with a time of introduction and honoring of each participant\, inviting plant spirit connection to our intentions/prayers and sound healing meditation. Healing sound helps break up trauma in the body and assists in releasing whatever no longer serves us. This is so important in our culture and world today. At the end of the session\, Jenny will share seasonal herbal tea and a sweet offering to help integrate and embody the experience. \nWe are thrilled that Jenny found the Well (literally in her own neighborhood!) and is sharing her gifts of love and presence now as part of the Well community. We invite you to join Jenny and trust this ancient healing process of soul sound weaving for the renewal of your body\, mind and spirit and the nourishment of your soul. \nPlease Note: This session will last 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the number of participants. \nDATE: Sunday\, September 29\, 2024 \nTIME: 4:00 – 6:00 PM (1.5-2 hours) \nCOST: $45 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY:  Please read our cancellation policy\, here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Jenny Ehrhardt \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nOver the Last two years I have been fortunate to work with two other women facilitating sound offerings on the Eastern Shore. I have seen so many beautiful effects this work has had on so many people\, including myself. I feel honored to be working with the bowls and other sounds to help connect us to something much deeper\, Ourselves. Working with all ages on many different levels\, I see the peace come over most people in a very surprising way. I have been called to create small\, intimate sound offerings right here in my hometown. I am grateful to have found Well for the Journey\, which has been such a sacred place for me this past year. I work deeply with the plants as well and had a small shoppe in Hampden for over 10 years. I have been called to service and I love plants\, sound\, and people who are open to change and learning and being in a community without judgement. Pure Hearts\, I feel this at Well For the Journey and look forward to connecting more and sharing and learning through sound and the plants.

SUMMARY:Drawing Zentangle Inspired Mandalas (Online Program)
DESCRIPTION:Join Becky Boynton this Fall as she returns for another offering of Zentangle®! Becky\, a Certified Zentangle Teacher\, is excited to guide others in learning this step-by-step method that can expand your sense of being creative and positively contribute to your overall experience of well-being. You are invited and encouraged to participate in this upcoming program whether you have never “tangled” before or if you do have prior experience with Zentangle. \nThe Zentangle® Method is a simple\, relaxing\, fun way to create beautiful abstract designs by drawing structured patterns. Participants only need paper\, pencil\, a black fine line pen and some Q-Tips or other blending tool. No previous skills or experience are needed; just a willingness to put pen to paper. There are no mistakes in Zentangle; this is meant to be relaxing. \nWhile the process may look intricate\, it is a deceptively simple pathway to improve your well-being. In addition to verbal instructions\, you will receive handouts before class that will assist you in following Becky’s live video demonstrations. \nThe benefits of Zentangle are numerous and include increased confidence\, relaxation\, and inspiration. This practice also enhances focus\, heightens mindfulness\, and fosters a deeper sense of meaningfulness on a spiritual level. Beginners are often quite surprised and pleased at what they create. “Anything is possible one stroke at a time.” That is the Zentangle tag line. \nIn each class\, Becky will use the Zentangle method and patterns to draw a mandala. Mandalas are usually circles filled with symmetrical and repeating geometric shapes. They date back to at least the 4th century B.C. and can be found in religious ceremonies\, meditation practices\, home décor\, on clothing\, and even tattoos. \nParticipants are encouraged to follow the instructions as demonstrated or “go rogue” and deviate slightly or widely from Becky’s planned mandala. Each of the sessions is suited to first-time tanglers as well as those with experience. The sessions stand alone\, so participation in all three is not necessary. Additionally\, for the first time\, the sessions will be recorded. If you register and are unable to attend for some reason\, we can send you the recording after the sessions. A copy of the recording will also be sent to everyone who attends. \nDATES & TIMES:\n· Tuesday\, September 17th from 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET\n· Thursday\, September 26th from 10:00 – 11:30 AM ET\n· Sunday\, September 29th from 4:00 – 5:30 PM ET \nCOST: $25 per session or $60 for all three sessions \nLOCATION: ZOOM \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. SUMMARY:Group Spiritual Direction 2024-2025 with Cathy Rosensteel (In-Person & Online)
DESCRIPTION:Group Spiritual Direction is a process in which people gather together on a regular basis to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God (Spirit\, Source\, Creator\, whatever your name is) in all of life. Participants in the group are seeking support for their responsiveness to God and they agree to support others in that same responsiveness. This contemplative approach to spiritual direction is grounded in the model that originated at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington\, DC. . \nJoining the group is a deep commitment to one’s spiritual journey and to the other participants in the group. Three conditions are essential to the life of the group. Members must agree to: \n· Commit themselves to an honest relationship with God\, by whatever name called.\n· Participate wholeheartedly in the group process through consistent attendance and prayerful listening and response.\n· Open their spiritual journeys for consideration by others. \nThe group is limited to five participants and is facilitated by Cathy Rosensteel. The group will meet both in-person at the Well and on Zoom as noted below. \nCathy’s group has space for one new person this year. If you are feeling urged to give Group Spiritual Direction a try\, please call the Well at 410-296-9355. We will connect you with Cathy so that you can discuss your interest with her. \nDATES (In-Person at the Well): Saturdays – 9/28\, 10/12\, 11/9/24 and 3/8\, 4/12\, 5/10/25 \nDATES (Online via Zoom): Saturdays – 12/14/24 and 1/11\, 2/8/25 \nTIME: 8:30 – 11:00 AM \nCOST: $250 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Seven Sacred Pauses for Life's Daily Pilgrimage (Online Program Meeting Monthly)
DESCRIPTION:“All it takes is a simple\, sacred pause to get us in touch with the One who keeps vigil with us – the holy presence of so many names. Only you can name that which waits for you.” – Macrina Wiederkehr \nNo matter what spiritual path we follow\, we are all pilgrims together on each day’s journey. The details of our daily pilgrimage differ one from another\, but we all hope for a good day as we awake and move through the day with whatever joys and challenges await us. In her classic book\, Seven Sacred Pauses – Living Mindfully Through the Hours of the Day\, Macrina Wiederkehr invites us to embrace the rich tradition of consciously pausing at seven sacred moments of each day so that our daily passage through time is more of a sacred pilgrimage than one long To Do List. She encourages us to stay awake through the day\, “Each morning as I look out my window\, I want to be awake enough to say\, today I will remember to pause.” \nYou are invited to journey through the hours with spiritual companion and retreat leader\, Lorie Conway\, as we explore ways to practice pausing that recognize the busyness\, clutter\, noise\, and chaos that are rampant in our culture\, while gently encouraging us to be creators of our present moment. Each month will explore a different hour of the day and engage with contemplative spiritual practices that may be well suited for that time. We will use Wiederkehr’s book as a guide to the hours as we engage poetry\, music\, reflections\, and sacred text from an array of spiritual teachers and traditions. Please note\, it is not necessary to read the book as it is only one of many resources that will be utilized. \nOur monthly topics include:\n· September 26th – Introduction to Sacred Pausing\n· October 24th – The Awakening Hour – Dawn\n· November 21st – The Blessing Hour – Midmorning\n· December 12th – The Hour of Illumination – Midday\n· January 23rd – The Wisdom Hour – Midafternoon\n· February 20th – The Twilight Hour – Evening\n· March 20th – The Great Silence – Night\n· April 24th – The Night Watch – Midnight Until Dawn \nYou are welcome to join us for one\, many\, or all of the 8 monthly sessions. Lorie encourages you to join the first one\, if possible\, as it lays the groundwork for subsequent months. If you are unable to join the first one\, no worries! A handout will be provided to give you foundational information. \nDATES: Thursdays – 9/26\, 10/24\, 11/21\, 12/12/24\, and 1/23\, 2/20\, 3/20\, 4/24/25 \nTIME: 2:00 – 3:30 PM ET \nCOST: $35 per session or $250 for all 8 sessions \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY:  Please read our cancellation policy\, here. \nLOCATION: ZOOM \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. SUMMARY:Free: Worship in the Wild (In-Person Program - Oregon Ridge)
DESCRIPTION:During Covid\, many of us experienced communal worship in new ways\, mostly through on-line alternatives and outdoors. We grew accustomed to experiencing worship that wasn’t attached to a particular sacred building or in-person with others not in our household. Our experience of worship expanded and with it our freedom to recognize the sacred in many worship spaces. \nPlease join us this Fall for “Worship in the Wild” at beautiful Oregon Ridge Park in Hunt Valley. Our leaders for this alternative worship experience\, Scott Slater and Greg Cochran\, have long and rich histories in traditional pulpits and in the great outdoors! \nScott and Greg will combine their passion for nature with their experience of worship to gently move us along a trail where the “worship space” changes and encourages our sense of spirituality in nature. Inclusive and expansive language will be intentionally used that invites participants to think more broadly about how we understand terms such as God or Spirit. The order of service will be loosely structured and based on historic Christian Sunday worship patterns\, but with broader\, more inclusive\, and non-Christian specific language. Inspirational readings will come from a variety of sacred spiritual traditions. \nWe will gather at the Oregon Ridge Nature Center. The ability to walk for a mile and stand for ten minutes at a time along the trail is required. Please dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes. This offering is free\, but please register for planning purposes and so that we can notify you if worship is cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstance. Thank you! \nDATE: Sunday\, September 22\, 2024 \nTIME: 3:00 – 4:00PM \nCOST: FREE \nLOCATION: Oregon Ridge Nature Center\, 13555 Beaver Dam Road\, Cockeysville\, MD 21030 \nRSVP is required; please RSVP HERE: \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. Thank you! \nFACILITATORS: Scott Slater and Greg Cochran \nFACILITATOR BIOS: \nScott Slater:\nScott is a retired Episcopal priest and founding member of Well For the Journey. An avid outdoor enthusiast\, he spent most Sunday mornings during Covid out walking his dog and listening to church services online as he walked. He recently experienced a worship service at an ecumenical monastery that emphasized inclusive and expansive language that inspired him to offer this worship alternative through the Well. \nScott lives in Towson with his spouse but is often traveling throughout the country in his motorhome and going on amazing walks and hikes in many different inspiring settings. \nGreg Cochran:\nGreg has been the Executive Director at Well for the Journey since 2010. He is a graduate of Clemson University and Southern Seminary. Greg was Associate Pastor at Woodbrook Baptist Church serving from 1988-2022. SUMMARY:Welcoming Fall - A Mindful Outdoor Experience (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:In our society\, we spend a lot of time inside and in front of a screen. Chances are good you are reading about this program on a screen within four walls right now. Yet we are part of creation\, and our bodies and spirits instinctively crave a connection with the great outdoors. Spending time in nature promotes an increased sense of relaxation and supports the body’s capacity for overall wellness and healing. \nWe are pleased to welcome back certified Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and Yoga Instructor\, Jamila Keita\, for a Mindful Outdoor Experience (MOE) at the Well as we connect to the season of Fall. This MOE invites participants to rediscover the joy in nature by engaging in practices that awaken the senses such as meditation\, mindful walking (sauntering)\, gentle stretching\, and forest bathing. Studies have found that a “regular dose of nature therapy” improves sleep\, reduces symptoms of depression\, combats stress\, increases vigor\, and boosts our immune systems. \nThe program is designed to give you an outdoor experience without having to go into a remote location. It is based on a nine-step practice developed by the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership (KSMOL). Jamila is thrilled to bring her love for nature and walking\, and her experience and joy guiding MOE’s throughout the Baltimore metro area\, to the Well’s backyard woods. \nNo prior experience is needed. Participants must have moderate mobility and be capable of walking on a wooded path. \nDATE: Friday\, September 20\, 2024 \nTIME: 11:30AM – 1:30PM \nCOST: $30 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Jamila Keita \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nHi! My name is Evangeline “Jamila” Keita. I’ve been practicing yoga for almost 25 years and decided to teach yoga as my “retirement job.” It was during my yoga training (YT200) that I was introduced to Yoga Nidra. Immediately after completing YT200 in 2014\, I took my first Yoga Nidra training. Since that time\, I’ve taken subsequent trainings in Yoga Nidra in 2017 and 2021. I love this practice. \nDuring the shutdown\, I found “nature therapy.” This led me to complete a course through “The Kripalu School of Outdoor Leadership” and become a KMOG (Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide). \nI currently work for Nature Worx\, a non-profit that provides mindful outdoor experiences and nature therapy to persons in recovery and the general public. I also teach two yoga classes per week on Zoom. Each class includes poses and a short Yoga Nidra session. Since 2022\, I have provided weekly Yoga Nidra sessions for Hopewell Cancer Support Center and occasional Mindful Outdoor Experiences (MOEs). Additionally\, I work for Nature Worx\, a non-profit that provides MOEs to persons in recovery and the general public.

Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Becky Boynton \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nBecky Boynton taught elementary school for 27 years in Virginia and Maryland\, in both public and private schools. Most recently she served as the Service-Learning Coordinator at the Friends School of Baltimore. A longtime volunteer at a food pantry and financial assistance center in Baltimore\, she now volunteers teaching Zentangle® on Zoom. She was first introduced to Zentangle in 2012 and has been tangling ever since. In 2018 she became a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) by attending the four-day training program in Providence\, RI. She has been teaching Zentangle® since 2018. \nBefore Zentangle® she considered herself a crafter\, not an artist. Zentangle® has changed that. This step-by-step method is easy to learn\, relaxing and a fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It increases focus and creativity. She enjoys bringing this technique to those who do not see themselves as capable of creating art. She is now a firm believer that\, as the creators of Zentangle® say\, “Anything is possible\, one stroke at a time. ™” \nBecky returns to The Well having taught in person and Zoom Zentangle classes for us since 2020.

SUMMARY:Honoring Late Summer\, Preparing for Fall: A Sacred Circle Dance Gathering for Women (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome back Lisa Bardack\, Sacred Circle Dance Facilitator\, for another sacred circle dance gathering at the Well! \nSacred circle dance is a collective dance experience that draws from ancient and traditional folk dances\, many from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Dancing to wonderful music and rhythms\, we join the circle of grandmothers who initiated these dances and passed them on. Dancing in their footsteps\, we experience a sense of something greater than ourselves\, a continuum of which we are a sacred part. The dances evoke joy\, peace\, insight\, healing and a powerful sense of community and interconnection with each other and all life. \nBorn from the Earth\, these dances connect us to the rhythms of the seasons and the cycles of life. Moving as one to encoded energy patterns\, we learn about our basic relationships of being in our bodies\, being on Earth\, being in community and being present to the source of all life. \nIn Traditional Chinese Medicine\, Earth is the element associated with the season of late summer. As we move from the more yang/outward energy of summer toward the more yin/inward energy of fall\, the Earth provides us with the nourishment and grounding we need to help with this seasonal transition. In this circle dance gathering\, we will dance to honor Earth’s abundance\, generosity\, and support. As the fall equinox nears\, we’ll explore the dance between being and doing in an often busy season and acknowledge the need to let go of that which no longer serves us to create space for the new. \nNo dance experience is required (just basic mobility and coordination)\, as the dances are simple to moderately easy\, and the step sequences repetitive. Lisa will gently guide us in the dance steps and share meaningful information on the origins of each dance. SUMMARY:Writing to Heal (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Lindsey Pope is the author of five books\, a speaker and workshop leader\, and a busy mom who is passionate about sharing love\, laughter\, and healing through writing. She developed Writing to Heal based on her own experience coming out of a mental health crisis battling severe anxiety and depression. Lindsey used this method of writing in her own healing and found it so helpful and transformative that she felt called to share it with others. \nIn this interactive program\, Lindsey invites participants to use writing as a method for healing. Research has shown that journaling positively affects people’s mental health by lowering anxiety\, stopping rumination cycles\, and increasing self-awareness (source: www.webmd.com/mental-health/mental-health-benefits-of-journaling ). While writing is a free activity that can be done at any time and any place\, some people need a little help getting started. \nLindsey provides engaging exercises and writing prompts to help people get started in a way that’s comfortable for them\, while also encouraging participants to open up in an emotionally safe environment. Participants will engage in a variety of individual and group exercises and also learn strategies to continue this practice on their own time. No prior writing or journaling experience is needed for this evening of self-care\, laughter\, and healing through writing. \n\n  \nDATE: Wednesday\, September 11\, 2024 \nTIME: 6:00 – 8:00 PM \nCOST: $35 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Exploring Ecclesiastes through the Art of Vincent Van Gogh (Online Program)
DESCRIPTION:“Vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” The book of Ecclesiastes begins and ends with this proclamation (Ecc. 1:2 and Ecc. 12:8). Between these bookends\, the writer of this Book of Wisdom explores this recurring theme while questioning how one should live when life appears to be both futile and brief. Why am I here? What is the meaning of life? What is the best way to live? . \nJoin us for a unique program that seeks answers to these questions through interpreting the art of Vincent van Gogh. Van Gogh used his passion\, art\, and tireless pursuit of happiness to seek answers to endless questions. Like many of us\, he struggled with day-to-day needs and desires\, and turned to nature\, people\, and God in search of peace. \nCheryl Duvall\, a lifelong artist and Vincent van Gogh enthusiast\, will facilitate this program that involves both passive and active engagement. She will read select passages from Ecclesiastes while simultaneously displaying 27 images from Van Gogh’s vast collection in a stimulating interpretation of this Book of Wisdom. She will share how she first created the connection between her favorite artist and Ecclesiastes in the mid-1990s\, and then planned two different pilgrimages to Arles\, France to further her understanding of when\, where\, how\, and why he painted so many works of art there. \nJoin Cheryl from the cool comfort of your home for an engaging Summer evening of exploration and discussion about using art to uncover deeper meanings to sacred scriptures that challenge us in today’s world. \nDATE: Tuesday\, August 20\, 2024 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET \nCOST: $30 \nLOCATION: ZOOM \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. SUMMARY:Soul Care for the Caregiver: A Spiritual Approach (In-Person Program with Four Opportunities for Soul Care)
DESCRIPTION:Please note that this program consists of 4 individual opportunities for Soul Care for Caregivers\, each session with a different topic and focus. You can choose to attend\, one\, two\, three or all four sessions. (There is a discounted price offered if you sign up for all four.) \nMillions of people in the U.S. are in caregiving roles providing assistance and care for the daily needs of a loved one or client who is unable to fully care for themselves. We recognize that caregiving brings both gifts and challenges. Sometimes it is hard for Caregivers to see the gifts because of the physical and emotional strain of their daily care responsibilities. This program series is designed specifically to support and encourage Caregivers. \nWhether you already recognize the need for deepening self-care on your caregiving journey\, or this is your first step toward self-care\, let us be part of your support team! Our experienced Facilitators bring a rich and unique set of experience\, skills\, and gifts to their passion for Caregivers. They have chosen four topics that they feel are especially important for your self-care. We also know your schedule as a Caregiver is tight and you may not be able to make all four sessions. You are welcome to register for one\, a few\, or all four sessions. Please read on for the detailed description for each session. Each session is being held in-person at Well for the Journey in Lutherville. \n“Self-care is never a selfish act – it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have\, the gift I was put on the earth to offer to others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give it the care it requires\, we do so not only for ourselves\, but for others whose lives we touch.” Parker Palmer\, Let Your Life Speak \n\nSession 1:  Beginnings and Endings: A Spiritual Journey- Thursday\, July 11th\, 6:30 – 8:00 PM (Judy Wright)\nThe caregiving journey\, like life\, is a series of beginnings and endings\, changes both welcome and unwelcome. In this first session of Soul Care for the Caregiver\, we will spend time reflecting on the challenges of caring for someone. Whether you are caring for a client or someone you love deeply\, the experience changes you. Using the poem “Beginnings and Endings” by Kate Bowler and Jessica Ritchie as a guide\, we will explore the emotions and spiritual underpinnings that provide sustenance and support for the beginnings and endings woven through the caregiving journey and how they change us. \nJudy Wright has been caregiving for almost 60 years\, both as a nurse and spiritual midwife. Caregiving is part of Judy’s bones. Learning how to care for herself while caring for others is a skill that Judy sees as being rooted in the light of divinity and the love that we share with each other. This time together is to help us share and explore what we are feeling\, questioning\, and wondering about on this journey. How do we find gratitude\, how do we find joy even during the toughest moments. Do we grow through the process of caring? Does our faith help us and bolster us? \nSession 2:  The Soundtrack of a Caregiving Life: A Musical Memory Workshop – Saturday\, July 20th\, 1:00 – 2:30 PM (Lauren Knatz)\nHave you ever listened to a song from your youth that transported you right back to the exact time and place where you first heard it? Experts refer to this as a reminiscence bump: a time between adolescence and young adulthood\, when musical memory was first paired with autobiographical memory and filed away for safekeeping. \nIn this second session\, Lauren Knatz\, musician\, author\, storyteller\, and believer in the healing power of music\, will take you on a journey of restoration\, self-discovery and self-reflection\, specially designed for caregivers\, and give you the tools to: \n· Unlock the musical memories within the framework of a traditional folk song\n· Explore and record the feelings and images that resonate with spontaneity and curiosity\n· Reconnect with the significant people\, places & events that have given your life meaning & spiritual presence\n· Reexamine past experiences with renewed clarity\, discernment\, and lovingkindness\n· Realign with the power of forgiveness and reconciliation\n· Foster lasting bonds with fellow caregivers through the retelling of shared experiences\n· Uncover universal themes that resonate both personally and collectively\n· Sing together to relieve stress\, build community and increase social bonding\n· Rest and restore with the soothing sounds of live music \nSession 3: Sacred Grieving as Self-Care & Compassion – Wednesday\, August 7th\, 6:30 PM-8:30 PM (Gordon Creamer)\nThe concept of grieving loss as a journey allows human beings to understand the healing process in stages\, with accompanying tasks\, and with needs that are both universal and unique. Yet\, there are many faces to grief and innumerable ways of expressing it. And\, the experience of caregiving for loved ones and clients involves its own dimensions of engaging with the landscape of loss and the numerous ways it can impact our identities\, abilities\, and ways of connecting with ourselves and others in definitive ways. \nThe reality of caregiving\, the myriad emotions it creates\, and the constant demands it requires offer us an opportunity to recognize our feelings and reflect upon our experiences with validation. Moreover\, processing this all through a lens of grief can empower individuals to access necessary healing in order move forward in empowered ways on their journey while still tending to loved ones or clients as caregivers. \nJoin Gordon Creamer\, Program Director at Well for the Journey\, Spiritual Director\, and experienced retreat and workshop leader\, for this third session that incorporates a spiritual approach to the grief work that is intrinsic to caregiving. As we gather together\, we will engage in opportunities for storytelling and listening\, meditation and journaling\, and other meaningful exercises. Various educational and self-care resources will be offered to uplift participants on their journey as they consider their respective circumstances in light of the sacred tasks inherent to grieving while caregiving. And\, in solidarity with other caregivers\, take steps toward openness to the powerful transformation that losses and intentional grief work can lead us to\, both within our caregiving roles and daily lives. \n\nSession 4: Caregiving and the Love Languages: Understanding & Creating Meaning – Monday\, August 19th\, 6:30 – 8:00 PM (Gordon Creamer)\nThe reality of caregiving in this era is one that often includes exhaustive to-do lists\, never-ending appointments and adjustments\, and striving to meet ever-changing demands. And\, it’s more than obvious that the experience of this is not conducive to the critical time needed for personal reflection upon the meaning of our exchanges with those for whom we are caregiving. In our fourth session of this series\, we will explore the innovative concept of the five love languages as described by Gary Chapman and how it can be applied to us as individuals as well as the relationships we encounter as caregivers for loved ones or patients. We will also consider the groundbreaking work that Chapman and co-authors\, Deborah Barr and Ed Shaw\, have created in connecting the world of love languages to the harsh realities of caregiving\, especially for those with dementia and other life-limiting conditions. By weaving in various concepts and creative exercises from their text\, Keeping Love Alive As Memories Fade: The Five Love Languages and the Alzheimer’s Journey\, you will be invited to expand in understanding your own personal love language\, that of the person you are caring for\, and also what related possibilities exist for deeper meaning and renewal in your life and caregiving. \nJoin Gordon Creamer\, Program Director at Well for the Journey\, Spiritual Director\, and experienced retreat and workshop leader\, for this final session in our Soul Care for the Caregiver series. As we gather together\, we will engage in opportunities for storytelling and listening\, meditation\, and journaling among other spiritual-oriented exercises. Information about the love languages and diverse opportunities for their integration will be introduced to empower you as you reflect upon your respective circumstances in light of caregiving with love. This final session will provide a safe\, sacred space for you to re-envision your daily tasks\, multi-faceted lives\, and inherent desire to be loving in your current caregiver situation and within your ongoing journey ahead. We hope you can join us! \nCOST: Cost per session varies (see registration form at link below.) \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATORS: \nJudy Wright\nJudy Wright is a retired nurse\, a Spiritual Director\, wife\, and mother of two adult children. She worked for 50 years as an R.N after graduating Nursing School from Church\, Home\, and Hospital.
SUMMARY:Honoring the Gifts of Summer: A Sacred Circle Dance Gathering for Women (In-Person Program)
\nIn this workshop\, we will dance to honor the gifts of Summer\, the active season of joy\, the season of the heart. We will dance\, too\, to honor the arrival of Late Summer\, a season that sits between the fullness of summer and the beginning of autumn. We will dance between the energies of joy and abundance\, and the need to ground and center\, allowing for time to stop the wheels of our ‘doings’ and simply ‘be’\, allowing for time to reflect on where we are and observe the nourishing experiences we’ve created in our lives. \nNo dance experience is required (just basic mobility and coordination)\, as the dances are simple to moderately easy\, and the step sequences repetitive. Lisa will gently guide us in the dance steps and share meaningful information on the origins of each dance. You can dance in bare feet\, socks\, or soft soled shoes. \nIf you love to dance\, or perhaps love the idea of sacred dance and are curious to learn more\, come and enjoy a beautiful afternoon of movement meditation in the safe and nurturing environment that is the Well! Registration is limited to 8 participants\, so please don’t delay! \nDATE: Saturday\, July 27\, 2024 \nTIME: 2:00 – 4:00 PM \nCOST: $45 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:My Life with the Jedi: The Spirituality of Star Wars - An Author-Led Book Study with Wine & Cheese (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Star Wars isn’t all laser swords and space wizards; at the heart of this global franchise is a call to discern between forces of light and dark. Nearly 500 years later\, the spirituality that bears his name is just as relevant to our lives. \nIn My Life with the Jedi: The Spirituality of Star Wars\, award-winning author\, and this year’s  speaker at our Well Said Speaker Series event\, Eric A. Clayton brings the stories of Star Wars into dialogue with Ignatian spiritualty\, inviting readers to reflect on their own struggles\, decisions\, vocations and\, ultimately\, the constant call to discover new hope. Join us for a relaxing summer evening of wine\, cheese\, and engaging study as Eric guides us in an intimate discussion through key themes from his book\, inviting us to reflect together\, share our own spiritual journeys\, and grow as a community along the way. \nDATE: Sunday\, July 21\, 2024 \nTIME: 6:30 – 8:30 PM \nPROGRAM COST: $35 \nTO PURCHASE THE BOOK:  Click here to purchase Eric’s Book from Amazon or call your favorite local bookseller to order. \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. She worked for 50 years as an R.N after graduating Nursing School from Church\, Home\, and Hospital. At the age of 65\, she obtained her M.A. from Loyola University\, Maryland and became a Spiritual Director. To Judy\, spiritual direction is not truly directing\, but rather sitting with\, and guiding someone who is searching for a new and deeper spiritual life. Thus\, she sees herself as a midwife\, being alongside those who are open to birthing a new relationship with the Divine. \nJudy is also an active Episcopalian\, serving her local church in various ways on the vestry\, as a Eucharistic Minister\, a member of the prayer group and St. Luke’s ministry\, and a spiritual facilitator of a weekly woman’s group\, Additionally\, she has been part of the Diocesan Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland\, a co-chair of the Reparations Committee\, and is presently a co-chair of the Commission of Ministry. Judy also serves on the Board of Directors for the Well for the Journey and as Chairperson of the Program Circle. \nLauren Knatz\nLauren Knatz has performed acoustic guitar with vocal accompaniment for seniors\, hospice patients and special needs populations for over twenty years. She is an author\, folk musician\, and storyteller\, who collects the stories and favorite music of those residing in all levels of care in Central Pa and Md. \nLauren is a strong advocate for those living with life altering conditions and her work focuses on using music as a tool to give voice to the memories stored within the context of a song. She believes that a song can be compared to an individual’s life – when you understand the inspiration and historical context behind a song\, the notes resonate with deeper clarity. Similarly\, when we are empowered to reflect upon our own lives\, we begin to recognize each turning point as a channel to greater peace and understanding. \nLauren’s work has gained the recognition of York Hospital Family Medicine\, where she has presented to resident doctors integrating Narrative Medicine\, a person-centered\, clinical approach from Columbia University that honors the narrative of the patient to improve communication\, instill empathy\, and promote healing. \nGordon Creamer\nGordon Creamer\, creator of The Mission Bridge \, joined the Well’s Staff in July 2022 as Program Director. SUMMARY:Conscious Connected Breathwork: An Introspective and Integrative Journey (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Introspective Breathwork™\, a form of conscious connected breathwork\, is a healing\, therapeutic modality which invites us into deeper relationship with ourselves. Breath is a bridge between matter and consciousness\, and its intentional\, mindful practice can ease stress and heal dysregulation in our nervous system\, bringing us to a greater degree of integrated peace\, embodied presence\, and self-insight. \nJoin Certified Introspective Breathwork™ Facilitator\, Amy Kulesa\, for an introduction and experience of conscious connected breathwork. Sometimes called “circular breathing\,” conscious connected breathwork involves deep\, diaphragmatic inhalations followed by natural\, unforced exhalation\, without a pause at the top and bottom of the breath. After a brief introduction to the history and practice of breathwork\, participants will breathe this way for an hour\, lying down on a mat or cushion\, to the accompaniment of ambient music. When breathing in this way\, you are in conscious control at all times of your own experience and can slow down or quicken your breath at any time\, pause to get a drink or use the restroom. Amy will offer support through compassionate and soulful presence and\, when appropriate\, through verbal prompts or gentle touch (with your permission). Following the breathwork practice\, there will be an integrative time of journaling\, stretching\, walking – whatever is helpful to you – to process the experience more fully and then a time of voluntary sharing as a group. \nThe breath’s integrative benefits are felt as we come into contact through deep presence to ourselves with an embodied experience of our emotions\, memories\, physical tensions\, and spiritual dimensions. This can allow us to behold ourselves in an expanded way within an enlarged\, more cosmic field of love and unitive consciousness. Conscious connected breathwork can gently support us in healing from stress\, the everyday tensions of our lives\, and deeper-seated unresolved effects from trauma. The environment for an Introspective Breathwork™ session is a nurturing\, safe space for self-exploration and coming into a deepened experience of transcendent Love. Each session and each person’s experience is unique\, as the breath facilitates movement of emotional energy up and through into consciousness and release\, and supports inner unity of body\, mind and spirit. \nStudies have found conscious connected breathwork to be very safe-rarely\, if ever\, do people experience adverse effects. Participants who are pregnant\, have a cardiac condition\, or other medical conditions such as bi-polar disorder or epilepsy\, need to be aware that activating breath practice affects the entire body’s systems. Participants are encouraged to discuss their interest in the program with their healthcare provider. All participants will be required to sign a release form after registration and return it to Amy for review. \nPLEASE NOTE: This program is being held in the Upper Room at the Well. Participants will need to walk up the stairs to the 3rd Floor. Additionally\, the length of the program will be 2 to 2.5 hours depending upon participant sharing. \nDATE: Saturday\, July 13\, 2024 \nTIME: 1:00 – 3:30 PM \nCOST: $50 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:The Establishment of Summer - A Mindful Outdoor Experience (In-Person Program)
\nWe are pleased to welcome back certified Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and Yoga Instructor\, Jamila Keita\, for a Mindful Outdoor Experience (MOE) at the Well as we connect to the season of summer. Participants must have moderate mobility and be capable of walking on a wooded path.\n\nDATE: Friday\, June 28\, 2024 \nTIME: 11:30AM – 1:30PM \nCOST: $30 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W.

SUMMARY:Yoga Nidra – Guided Meditation\, “Doing Less” (Online Program)
DESCRIPTION:Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice that helps to relax the mind and body by doing “nothing.” This ancient practice produces a profound state of relaxation just by listening. \nOne hour of Yoga Nidra is equal to four (4) hours of sleep. As the mind slows down\, our thoughts begin to move away from us. Yoga Nidra happens in the space between waking and sleeping. It’s like floating! You disengage from stress-producing thoughts\, allowing the body\, mind\, and spirit to rest and heal naturally. Modern studies have validated the benefits of Yoga Nidra; showing that a guided meditation is very effective in reducing anxiety\, stress\, and depression. \nResting comfortably in your own home\, the practice can be done lying down or in a seated position with your feet up. All you have to do is listen. These are the items you will need: \n· A quiet place to lay down or recline.\n· Pillow for head and under your knees.\n· Blanket for warmth.\n· If desired\, an eye mask or pillow to block light.\n· Water to drink. \nThe Well is thrilled to continue our relationship with certified Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide\, Yoga Instructor\, and I Am Yoga Nidra Facilitator\, Jamila Keita to offer this deeply healing and restorative practice. Most individuals report feelings of enhanced well-being\, calm and better sleep after each session. Many feel relaxed and energized. \nIf you are new to meditation\, never tried or been successful at meditation\, or an experienced meditator\, we encourage you to give Yoga Nidra a try. You will be amazed at how easily you will achieve a meditative state. \nDATES: Mondays – 4/8\, 5/13\, 6/10/24 and Tuesdays – 4/23\, 5/28\, 6/25/24 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:00 PM ET \nCOST: $15 per session\, All 6 sessions for $80 \nLOCATION: ZOOM \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nI currently teach two yoga classes per week on Zoom. \nI never imagined this second career as it is\, but it seems like a natural evolution to me. I hope you enjoy my offerings.

SUMMARY:In the Chapel of My Garden: A Praying in Color Meditation (Online Program)
DESCRIPTION:“In the humble and exalted chapel of my garden\, multitudes gather…” ~ Kai Siedenburg \nThis is the season of gardens! Farmers markets\, garden centers\, and nurseries are thriving and many of us have dirt under our nails on a daily basis. Whether you are a gardener\, a wannabe gardener\, or simply enjoy the beauty of a garden in June\, you know what Thomas Moore meant when he said\, “The soul cannot thrive in the absence of a garden.” \nYou are invited to join Lorie Conway in a guided and contemplative meditation where we will ponder the chapel of our favorite gardens and how they feed our soul. We will listen deeply to Kai Siedenburg’s poem\, “Humble and Exalted\,” and spend unhurried time in reflection and response using the spiritual practice of Praying in Color. There will also be time to share our reflections with one another in sacred community as you feel led. \nPraying in Color is simply doodling with color as a way of helping to focus our wandering minds and capture insights and invitations during prayer or meditation. No prior experience or artistic skills are required! All you need is white paper and colorful writing utensils such as colored pencils\, markers\, crayons\, or pens. Lorie will guide every step of this simple and meaningful spiritual practice. \nCome join us in celebration and gratitude for your favorite soul-nourishing garden! \nDATE: Monday\, June 24\, 2024 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET \nCOST: $20 \nLOCATION: ZOOM \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. SUMMARY:Horizons Men's Group 2023-2024 (Hybrid Program)
DESCRIPTION:“Where else could I go to have such a deep conversation about the spiritual journey with other men?” \nThis question is heard regularly as the Well’s Horizons Men’s group gathers to have honest conversations about how we might live out our spirituality as men in the world – within our daily living. \nPast Horizons’ series have focused on themes such as the deconstruction and reconstruction of faith\, the first and second halves of life\, spirituality and imperfection\, why do bad things happen to good people\, and what can we learn from other faith traditions – just to name a few! \nThe 2023-24 Horizons discussions will be guided by Brian McLaren’s book\, Do I Stay Christian: A Guide for the Doubters\, the Disappointed\, and the Disillusioned. McLaren says\, “There is a way to say both ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to the question of staying Christian by shifting the focus from whether we stay Christian to how we stay human.” So\, it follows that the question\, “Are we living out of the truth of our tradition or from its doctrine\, dogma\, and “supposed to(s)?” is one for all faith journeys. We will use McLaren’s book to guide us into this wider conversation. \nIf you are looking for a community where hard questions are welcomed and explored from the unique perspective of the male spiritual journey\, we have a place for you. Join Greg Cochran\, the Well’s Executive Director\, for a free online information session to learn more about Horizons and see if this community is what you might be looking for – Tuesday\, September 12th at 7:00 PM ET. \nHorizons Men’s Group will meet on the second Tuesday in October and then the third Tuesday thereafter (November – June)\, from 7:00pm-8:30pm ET. Our plan is to meet in-person with the option to “zoom in” for those who may not live close by or for those for whom “zooming” is more comfortable. Come check us out! \nDATE: Tuesdays\, 10/10\, 11/21\, 12/19/2023 and 1/16\, 2/20\, 3/19\, 4/16\, 5/21\, 6/18/2024\n\nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET\n\nCOST: $195  \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here.\n\nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here.\n \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W.
