SUMMARY:Yoga Nidra – Guided Meditation\, “Doing Less” (Online Program)
DESCRIPTION:Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice that helps to relax the mind and body by doing “nothing.” This ancient practice produces a profound state of relaxation just by listening. \nOne hour of Yoga Nidra is equal to four (4) hours of sleep. As the mind slows down\, our thoughts begin to move away from us. Yoga Nidra happens in the space between waking and sleeping. It’s like floating! You disengage from stress-producing thoughts\, allowing the body\, mind\, and spirit to rest and heal naturally. Modern studies have validated the benefits of Yoga Nidra; showing that a guided meditation is very effective in reducing anxiety\, stress\, and depression. \nResting comfortably in your own home\, the practice can be done lying down or in a seated position with your feet up. All you have to do is listen. These are the items you will need: \n· A quiet place to lay down or recline.\n· Pillow for head and under your knees.\n· Blanket for warmth.\n· If desired\, an eye mask or pillow to block light.\n· Water to drink. \nThe Well is thrilled to continue our relationship with certified Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide\, Yoga Instructor\, and I Am Yoga Nidra Facilitator\, Jamila Keita to offer this deeply healing and restorative practice. Most individuals report feelings of enhanced well-being\, calm and better sleep after each session. Many feel relaxed and energized. \nIf you are new to meditation\, never tried or been successful at meditation\, or an experienced meditator\, we encourage you to give Yoga Nidra a try. You will be amazed at how easily you will achieve a meditative state. \nDATES: Mondays – 4/8\, 5/13\, 6/10/24 and Tuesdays – 4/23\, 5/28\, 6/25/24 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:00 PM ET \nCOST: $15 per session\, All 6 sessions for $80 \nLOCATION: ZOOM \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Jamila Keita \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nHi! My name is Evangeline “Jamila” Keita. I’ve been practicing yoga for almost 25 years and decided to teach yoga as my “retirement job.” It was during my yoga training (YT200) that I was introduced to Yoga Nidra. Immediately after completing YT200 in 2014\, I took my first Yoga Nidra training. Since that time\, I’ve taken subsequent trainings in Yoga Nidra in 2017 and 2021. I love this practice. \nDuring the shutdown\, I found “nature therapy.” This led me to complete a course through “The Kripalu School of Outdoor Leadership” and become a KMOG (Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide). \nI currently teach two yoga classes per week on Zoom. Each class includes poses and a short Yoga Nidra session. Since 2022\, I have provided weekly Yoga Nidra sessions for Hopewell Cancer Support Center and occasional Mindful Outdoor Experiences (MOEs). Additionally\, I work for Nature Worx\, a non-profit that provides MOEs to persons in recovery and the general public. \nI never imagined this second career as it is\, but it seems like a natural evolution to me. I hope you enjoy my offerings.

SUMMARY:Meditative Movement as a Path for Holy Listening (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Most people accept the idea that the mind can be a tool for spiritual exploration – we use the mind in meditation and prayer\, and we read and ponder spiritual literature with our minds to deepen connection with the Holy. Emotions are also another mode of spiritual inquiry; think about the devotional approach of some religions as accepted practice to enhance spiritual experience. But we often don’t spend much time thinking of the spiritual access to be gained through the body and movement. In fact\, in some religious traditions\, the body\, the “flesh\,” was thought to be a barrier to more spiritual aspirations. However\, our bodies are truly wonderful sources for deep and holy listening if we understand how to pay attention. \nJoin Spiritual Director and Retreat Facilitator\, Beth Wood-Roig\, as she shares practices from different spiritual traditions for listening to our bodies’ innate wisdom. We will explore various forms of movement\, sometimes meditative\, sometimes silly\, hopefully fun\, and ever surprising. There will also be time and space for personal contemplation and practice\, as well as group reflection and sharing. Weather permitting\, you may also wish to spend some time outside at the beautiful Well property. \nNo prior experience is needed\, just basic mobility. All movements can be modified for any fitness level. Light snacks will be provided and you are also welcome to bring a snack of your choice. Please don’t hesitate! This program is limited to 10 participants. \nOur bodies are waiting to speak to us. Let’s listen together! \n\n\nDATE: Saturday\, May 11\, 2024 \nTIME: 12:00 – 5:00 PM\n\nCOST: $60\n\nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy. here. \nPREPARING FOR YOUR PROGRAM:\nYou will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 2 days in advance of the start of your program. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the Zoom Link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Beth Wood-Roig \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nBeth’s background includes many years leading contemplative retreats\, small group facilitation and spiritual companioning. She believes that we each experience the Divine in our own unique way. Her sense of the One is that of loving Presence\, holding us gently through all of life\, the joys\, surprises\, sorrows\, uncertainties\, worries\, fears\, and assurances. Her faith background is Unitarian Universalist\, with Christian and Buddhist leanings\, and she often finds spiritual grounding in body prayer and nature. Beth has completed certificates in Contemplative Leadership and in Spiritual Direction for Spiritual Guides\, both from Oasis Ministries for Spiritual Development\, based in Camp Hill\, PA. She enjoys gardening\, hiking\, reading\, body prayer and dance\, and spending time with her family and two kitties.

SUMMARY:Group Spiritual Direction 2023-2024 with Cathy Rosensteel (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Group spiritual direction is a process in which people gather together on a regular basis to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God (Spirit\, Source\, Creator\, whatever your word is) in all of life. They are seeking support for their responsiveness to God and they agree to support others in that same responsiveness. Three conditions are essential to the life of the group. Members must agree to: \n* commit themselves to an honest relationship with God\n* to participate wholeheartedly in the group process through prayerful listening and response\n* to open their spiritual journeys for consideration by others \nThis contemplative approach to spiritual direction is grounded in the model that originated at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington\, DC. The group is limited to five participants and is facilitated by Cathy Rosensteel. The group will meet both in-person at the Well and on Zoom (During the winter months as as noted below.) \nThis group has space for one new person this year. If you are feeling nudged to give Group Spiritual Direction a try\, please call the Well at 410-296-9355. We will connect you with Cathy so that you can discuss your interest with her. \nDATES (At the Well): Saturdays – 9/9\, 10/7\, 11/11/2023 and 3/9\, 4/13\, 5/11/2024\nDATES (On Zoom): Saturdays – 12/9/2023\, and 1/13\, 2/10/2024 \nTIME: 8:30 – 11:00 AM \nCOST: $250 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Qi Gong for Wellbeing of Body\, Mind\, and Spirit (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese healing practice that combines focused breathing\, gentle movement\, and meditation to promote wellbeing of body\, mind\, and spirit. “Qi” is our “life force energy” and “Gong” is the skill or practice of using that energy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)\, poor health is connected to stagnant energy in the body. Qi Gong is used to keep Qi balanced and flowing – especially during times of stress\, illness\, or these early days of Spring when\, like the plants pushing through still cold soil\, we can push through our obstacles to emerge as our own true selves. \nAs our Qi begins to flow more freely\, we can move from a stuck feeling to a more open one. We can notice and acknowledge emotions as they arise and even choose to release them\, kind of like peeling away the layers of an onion to get to the core – the core of who we are\, minus all the layers of our lives\, past and present\, which can compromise our health and well-being. We can make room for centeredness\, positive connection\, thoughtful communication\, vitality\, and our growth as human beings on this beautiful planet. \nJoin experienced Qi Gong Instructor and Health Advocate\, Mindie Flamholz\, to learn the simple breathing techniques and gentle movements of Qi Gong. Qi Gong can be done standing\, seated\, in a wheelchair\, or in bed. Movements can be modified and even imagined! I can imagine swimming in a lake without being there! All you need is an open and curious mindset and a willingness to try. \nThis program will be held outside at the Well. In the event of inclement weather\, the program will move inside. \nDATES: Fridays\, 4/26\, 5/3\, 5/10\, 5/17/2024\n\nTIME: 1:00 – 2:30 PM ET\n\nCOST: $15 per session or $55 for all 4 sessions\n\nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here. Thank you!\n\nFACILITATOR: Mindie Flamholz\n\nFACILITATOR BIO:\nMindie loves the practice of Qi Gong\, especially outside\, no matter the season. For her\, the practice reminds her that as reflected outside in Nature\, so is inside each of us. In her words — standing beneath a tree as its leaves fall\, inhaling cold\, crisp winter air\, loosening warming soil with my fingers\, moving in water with the motion of the waves… I breathe and exchange life giving forces with all around me. What a gift ! \nIn her experiences of learning Qi Gong\, Mindie has trained with Chan Zhang\, Mantak Chia\, Dr. Kevin Chen\, and Lee Holden among others\, while her teaching experiences have engaged and supported school children\, women who have been abused\, been previously incarcerated\, suffered the loss of children\, or been diagnosed with cancer\, in addition to stroke survivors\, stressed-out hospital staff\, physical therapists\, individuals in recovery\, seniors in residential communities\, and more. Mindie continues to share the benefits of Qi Gong with many others and to grow in her own body\, mind\, and spirit. \nMindie also loves The Well! She finds that each program she has taken has broadened her and made her feel more connected to herself and others.

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT: Sacred Drum Making at Well for the Journey (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:This program has reached it’s capacity and is now sold out.  We have created a wait list in case someone who is registered is unable to attend. Join the wait list here. \nWe are delighted to welcome back master drum maker and spiritual teacher\, Starfeather Marcy\, for another wonderful opportunity to make your own sacred drum! \n Hand-drums have been used for centuries by Indigenous people around the world in spiritual ceremonies. Starfeather has been facilitating drum making for over twenty-five years. In this intimate workshop\, you will make your own hand-drum in ceremony and within sacred community. Starfeather has created an easy\, step-by-step process to guide you through this experience. It is approached as “sacred crafting”\, a prayerful\, contemplative\, and relaxing day of creation. Participants will honor all materials\, including the animal hides and the wooden drum frames\, as well as the process of creating a tool that becomes an instrument for prayer\, meditation\, sound healing\, and enjoyment. \nThe program will begin with an opening prayer of gratitude and an opportunity for introductions and brief sharing. Starfeather will then offer a short history of drumming and an explanation of the materials and the tools to be used. Each participant will be making a 15” Elk hide drum and drum beater. The style of drum to be created is from the Northwest US and Canada. \nNo skills are needed beyond the basic ability to use scissors and a mallet and punch. All tools and materials are provided. \n\nThe program consists of three parts: \nPart One: Preparation of materials by punching holes in the hides\, cutting rawhide lacing and making drum beaters. \nPart Two: Return for a brief meditation. Then\, careful lacing up of drums and bringing them into being. \nPart Three: Learning how to care for your drum is explained throughout the creative process. The day will end with a closing sharing and a prayer of gratitude. \nEach drum is as unique as are the people who make them. The process of drum making is a unifying experience\, especially when done in sacred community. You will leave this workshop with something you have made with your heart and hands that will last a lifetime and can become part of your legacy\, a gift to pass on to the next generation and to use in your own spiritual practice now. \nPlease bring a bag lunch and beverage for your lunch break. \nDATE: Saturday\, May 4\, 2024\n\nTIME: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM\n\nCOST: $250\, includes all materials\n\nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is now closed due to capacity; you may add your name to the wait list here. \nPLEASE NOTE OUR CANCELLATION POLICY FOR THIS PROGRAM: Given the cost of the drum making materials\, the Well is not able to offer any refund if you are unable to attend the workshop after registering. You are welcome to gift your ticket to someone else if you are unable to attend. Please call the Well if someone else will be using your ticket. Thank you for your understanding! \nPREPARING FOR YOUR PROGRAM:\nYou will receive an email from Well for the Journey at least 2 days in advance of the start of your program.
\nPREPARING FOR YOUR PROGRAM:\nYou will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 2 days in advance of the start of your program. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders.

SUMMARY:The "Nature" of Journaling (Online Program)
DESCRIPTION:Join this three-part journaling series to examine the nature of your spiritual awakening. Each session will engage participants in examining their personal journeys related to mountains\, valleys\, and streams. Each is a metaphor for life and provides powerful connections to our spiritual life. \nLike a mountain\, life is full of challenges\, and great accomplishments. Taking time to look at the step-by-step journey of growth in our lives provides spiritual fulfillment. \nValleys provide focus on what matters most by putting forth the effort to look within\, find the blessing\, and discover the light. Understanding times of questioning and uncertainty directs our spiritual development. \nStreams flow with many twists and turns. Some streams “go with the flow’\, while others are content to follow a path and let the current take its course. The path of a stream can be compared to our spiritual path\, one of richness and new life. \nYou are warmly invited to join experienced journaling facilitator\, Liz Neal\, to deepen your journaling practice or start a new one! Through guided practice to include a variety of readings and prompts participants will reflect\, journal\, and share responses to these aspects in nature. Simple journal strategies will be shared and modeled. \nNo previous writing or journaling experience is required. You may join for individual sessions or the entire series. \nDATE: Fridays\, 3/1\, 4/12\, 5/3/2024\n\nTIME: 10:00 – 11:30 AM ET\n\nCOST: $80 for the series of 3 sessions or $30 per session\n\nLOCATION: Zoom \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here. \nPREPARING FOR YOUR PROGRAM:\nYou will receive an email from Well for the Journey at least 2 days in advance of the start of your program.

SUMMARY:Group Spiritual Direction 23/24 with Franklin Adkinson (In-Person Program)
The group is limited to five participants and is facilitated by Franklin Adkinson. The group will meet in-person at the Well. \nThis group has space for one new person this year. If you are feeling nudged to give Group Spiritual Direction a try\, please call the Well at 410-296-9355. We will connect you with Franklin so that you can discuss your interest with him. \nDATES: Saturdays – 10/21\, 11/18\, 12/16/2023 and 1/20\, 2/17\, 3/16\, 4/20\, 5/18/2024 \nTIME: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM\n\nCOST: $250\n\nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Horizons Men's Group 2023-2024 (Hybrid Program)
DESCRIPTION:“Where else could I go to have such a deep conversation about the spiritual journey with other men?” \nThis question is heard regularly as the Well’s Horizons Men’s group gathers to have honest conversations about how we might live out our spirituality as men in the world – within our daily living. \nPast Horizons’ series have focused on themes such as the deconstruction and reconstruction of faith\, the first and second halves of life\, spirituality and imperfection\, why do bad things happen to good people\, and what can we learn from other faith traditions – just to name a few! \nThe 2023-24 Horizons discussions will be guided by Brian McLaren’s book\, Do I Stay Christian: A Guide for the Doubters\, the Disappointed\, and the Disillusioned. McLaren says\, “There is a way to say both ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to the question of staying Christian by shifting the focus from whether we stay Christian to how we stay human.” So\, it follows that the question\, “Are we living out of the truth of our tradition or from its doctrine\, dogma\, and “supposed to(s)?” is one for all faith journeys. We will use McLaren’s book to guide us into this wider conversation. \nIf you are looking for a community where hard questions are welcomed and explored from the unique perspective of the male spiritual journey\, we have a place for you. Join Greg Cochran\, the Well’s Executive Director\, for a free online information session to learn more about Horizons and see if this community is what you might be looking for – Tuesday\, September 12th at 7:00 PM ET. \nHorizons Men’s Group will meet on the second Tuesday in October and then the third Tuesday thereafter (November – June)\, from 7:00pm-8:30pm ET. Our plan is to meet in-person with the option to “zoom in” for those who may not live close by or for those for whom “zooming” is more comfortable. Come check us out! \nDATE: Tuesdays\, 10/10\, 11/21\, 12/19/2023 and 1/16\, 2/20\, 3/19\, 4/16\, 5/21\, 6/18/2024\n\nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET\n\nCOST: $195  \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here.\n\nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here.\n \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 and Zoom: You will receive an email from Well for the Journey the week of the program\, (usually 2 days in advance) with the Zoom Link. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. If you are unable to find the email\, please search your email folders\, including your spam folder. Thank you.\n\nFACILITATOR: Greg Cochran\n\nFACILITATOR BIO:\nGreg has been the Executive Director at Well for the Journey since 2010. He is a graduate of Clemson University and Southern Seminary.
