SUMMARY:The Awareness and Power of Self-Love: A Day Retreat (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Feelings of melancholy\, sadness\, and depression impact each of us at some times in life. For others\, these feelings are more persistent or recurring as we cope with the painful circumstances in our lives. \nAlthough our bodies know we are capable of experiencing\, enduring\, and recovering from even the most severe challenges\, it is often our egos that try to avoid\, deny\, and refuse to forgive and let go of the past\, thereby denying us the opportunity to heal and move forward. Through small group discussion\, guided meditation\, and reflection through collage and journaling\, we will deepen our understanding of the importance of self-love and ways to cultivate it in our personal lives. \nPlease bring a bag lunch. Coffee\, tea\, and light snacks will be provided. Supplies are included. \nDATE: Saturday\, June 1\, 2024 \nTIME: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nCOST: Early Bird Discount – $50 if purchased by 4/28/24; $60 if purchased 4/29/24 or later \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:The Contemplative Practices of Jesus & Their Connection to Human Brain Science (In-Person Book Study)
DESCRIPTION:As spiritual seekers\, we often find ourselves searching for different ways of discovering the Divine in the circumstances of our lives\, both in ordinary moments and in seasons of crisis and growth. Each of the world’s faith traditions unfold through and around figures and teachings that foster this awareness. In the person and practices of Jesus\, we are invited to engage with the model he offers us in pausing and remembering to be with God in the midst of each of our days. \nWith this understanding\, you are invited to join us for a book study about Practice the Pause: Jesus’ Contemplative Practice\, New Brain Science\, and What It Means to Be Fully Human by Maryland local author and spiritual director\, Caroline Oakes. In this refreshing text\, she vividly explores recent developments in brain science\, which have proven that an intentional practice of pausing for a few minutes of meditation\, prayer\, or other contemplative practices actually rewires the human brain. These pauses create ways that make us calmer and less reactive\, and our world needs this mode of responding to each other more than ever. While recognizing that every spiritual tradition values this kind of contemplative pausing\, Oakes highlights Jesus’s own centering pause practice as a transformative path for becoming more “God aware\,” and sparking both personal and social change. \nDuring each session of this two-part program\, participants will have opportunities for engaging Oakes’ text through prayerful pauses\, creative and spiritual-oriented exercises\, and small and large group dialogue. Both sessions will explore different facets of brain science and its neuro-connections to the spiritual dimension of being human while also examining a few of the contemplative pause practices that Jesus would have been familiar with in his time\, culture\, and religious tradition. While participating in both sessions provides a fuller experience with the book and subject matter\, interested participants may register for either or both sessions. Prior reading of the text is not mandatory\, but is encouraged. Please bring a journal along for use during the program. \nDATE: Wednesdays\, May 29 & June 5\, 2024 \nTIME: 6:00 – 8:00 PM \nCOST: $30 per session or $50 for both \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nCANCELLATION POLICY: Please read our cancellation policy\, here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. SUMMARY:The Establishment of Summer - A Mindful Outdoor Experience (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:In our society\, we spend a lot of time inside and in front of a screen. Chances are good you are reading about this program on a screen within four walls right now. Yet we are part of creation\, and our bodies and spirits instinctively crave a connection with the great outdoors. Spending time in nature promotes an increased sense of relaxation and supports the body’s capacity for overall wellness and healing. \nWe are pleased to welcome back certified Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and Yoga Instructor\, Jamila Keita\, for a Mindful Outdoor Experience (MOE) at the Well as we connect to the season of summer. This MOE invites participants to rediscover the joy in nature by engaging in practices that awaken the senses such as meditation\, mindful walking (sauntering)\, gentle stretching\, and forest bathing. Studies have found that a “regular dose of nature therapy” improves sleep\, reduces symptoms of depression\, combats stress\, increases vigor\, and boosts our immune systems. \nThe program is designed to give you an outdoor experience without having to go into a remote location. It is based on a nine-step practice developed by the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership (KSMOL). Jamila is thrilled to bring her love for nature and walking\, and her experience and joy guiding MOE’s throughout the Baltimore metro area\, to the Well’s backyard woods. \nNo prior experience is needed. Participants must have moderate mobility and be capable of walking on a wooded path.\n\nDATE: Friday\, June 28\, 2024 \nTIME: 11:30AM – 1:30PM \nCOST: $30 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Jamila Keita \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nHi! My name is Evangeline “Jamila” Keita. I’ve been practicing yoga for almost 25 years and decided to teach yoga as my “retirement job.” It was during my yoga training (YT200) that I was introduced to Yoga Nidra. Immediately after completing YT200 in 2014\, I took my first Yoga Nidra training. Since that time\, I’ve taken subsequent trainings in Yoga Nidra in 2017 and 2021. I love this practice. \nDuring the shutdown\, I found “nature therapy.” This led me to complete a course through “The Kripalu School of Outdoor Leadership” and become a KMOG (Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide). \nI currently work for Nature Worx\, a non-profit that provides mindful outdoor experiences and nature therapy to persons in recovery and the general public. I also teach two yoga classes per week on Zoom. Each class includes poses and a short Yoga Nidra session. Since 2022\, I have provided weekly Yoga Nidra sessions for Hopewell Cancer Support Center and occasional Mindful Outdoor Experiences (MOEs). Additionally\, I work for Nature Worx\, a non-profit that provides MOEs to persons in recovery and the general public.

SUMMARY:Conscious Connected Breathwork: An Introspective and Integrative Journey (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Introspective Breathwork™\, a form of conscious connected breathwork\, is a healing\, therapeutic modality which invites us into deeper relationship with ourselves. Breath is a bridge between matter and consciousness\, and its intentional\, mindful practice can ease stress and heal dysregulation in our nervous system\, bringing us to a greater degree of integrated peace\, embodied presence\, and self-insight. \nJoin Certified Introspective Breathwork™ Facilitator\, Amy Kulesa\, for an introduction and experience of conscious connected breathwork. Sometimes called “circular breathing\,” conscious connected breathwork involves deep\, diaphragmatic inhalations followed by natural\, unforced exhalation\, without a pause at the top and bottom of the breath. After a brief introduction to the history and practice of breathwork\, participants will breathe this way for an hour\, lying down on a mat or cushion\, to the accompaniment of ambient music. When breathing in this way\, you are in conscious control at all times of your own experience and can slow down or quicken your breath at any time\, pause to get a drink or use the restroom. Amy will offer support through compassionate and soulful presence and\, when appropriate\, through verbal prompts or gentle touch (with your permission). Following the breathwork practice\, there will be an integrative time of journaling\, stretching\, walking – whatever is helpful to you – to process the experience more fully and then a time of voluntary sharing as a group. \nThe breath’s integrative benefits are felt as we come into contact through deep presence to ourselves with an embodied experience of our emotions\, memories\, physical tensions\, and spiritual dimensions. This can allow us to behold ourselves in an expanded way within an enlarged\, more cosmic field of love and unitive consciousness. Conscious connected breathwork can gently support us in healing from stress\, the everyday tensions of our lives\, and deeper-seated unresolved effects from trauma. The environment for an Introspective Breathwork™ session is a nurturing\, safe space for self-exploration and coming into a deepened experience of transcendent Love. Each session and each person’s experience is unique\, as the breath facilitates movement of emotional energy up and through into consciousness and release\, and supports inner unity of body\, mind and spirit. \nStudies have found conscious connected breathwork to be very safe-rarely\, if ever\, do people experience adverse effects. Participants who are pregnant\, have a cardiac condition\, or other medical conditions such as bi-polar disorder or epilepsy\, need to be aware that activating breath practice affects the entire body’s systems. Participants are encouraged to discuss their interest in the program with their healthcare provider. All participants will be required to sign a release form after registration and return it to Amy for review. \nPLEASE NOTE: This program is being held in the Upper Room at the Well. Participants will need to walk up the stairs to the 3rd Floor. Additionally\, the length of the program will be 2 to 2.5 hours depending upon participant sharing. \nDATE: Saturday\, July 13\, 2024 \nTIME: 1:00 – 3:30 PM \nCOST: $50 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Soul Care for the Caregiver: A Spiritual Approach (In-Person Program with Four Opportunities for Soul Care)
DESCRIPTION:Please note that this program consists of 4 individual opportunities for Soul Care for Caregivers\, each session with a different topic and focus. You can choose to attend\, one\, two\, three or all four sessions. (There is a discounted price offered if you sign up for all four.) \nMillions of people in the U.S. are in caregiving roles providing assistance and care for the daily needs of a loved one or client who is unable to fully care for themselves. We recognize that caregiving brings both gifts and challenges. Sometimes it is hard for Caregivers to see the gifts because of the physical and emotional strain of their daily care responsibilities. This program series is designed specifically to support and encourage Caregivers. \nWhether you already recognize the need for deepening self-care on your caregiving journey\, or this is your first step toward self-care\, let us be part of your support team! Our experienced Facilitators bring a rich and unique set of experience\, skills\, and gifts to their passion for Caregivers. They have chosen four topics that they feel are especially important for your self-care. We also know your schedule as a Caregiver is tight and you may not be able to make all four sessions. You are welcome to register for one\, a few\, or all four sessions. Please read on for the detailed description for each session. Each session is being held in-person at Well for the Journey in Lutherville. \n“Self-care is never a selfish act – it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have\, the gift I was put on the earth to offer to others. Anytime we can listen to true self and give it the care it requires\, we do so not only for ourselves\, but for others whose lives we touch.” Parker Palmer\, Let Your Life Speak \n\nSession 1:  Beginnings and Endings: A Spiritual Journey- Thursday\, July 11th\, 6:30 – 8:00 PM (Judy Wright)\nThe caregiving journey\, like life\, is a series of beginnings and endings\, changes both welcome and unwelcome. In this first session of Soul Care for the Caregiver\, we will spend time reflecting on the challenges of caring for someone. Whether you are caring for a client or someone you love deeply\, the experience changes you. Using the poem “Beginnings and Endings” by Kate Bowler and Jessica Ritchie as a guide\, we will explore the emotions and spiritual underpinnings that provide sustenance and support for the beginnings and endings woven through the caregiving journey and how they change us. \nJudy Wright has been caregiving for almost 60 years\, both as a nurse and spiritual midwife. Caregiving is part of Judy’s bones. Learning how to care for herself while caring for others is a skill that Judy sees as being rooted in the light of divinity and the love that we share with each other. This time together is to help us share and explore what we are feeling\, questioning\, and wondering about on this journey. How do we find gratitude\, how do we find joy even during the toughest moments. Do we grow through the process of caring? Does our faith help us and bolster us? \nSession 2:  The Soundtrack of a Caregiving Life: A Musical Memory Workshop – Saturday\, July 20th\, 1:00 – 2:30 PM (Lauren Knatz)\nHave you ever listened to a song from your youth that transported you right back to the exact time and place where you first heard it? Experts refer to this as a reminiscence bump: a time between adolescence and young adulthood\, when musical memory was first paired with autobiographical memory and filed away for safekeeping. \nIn this second session\, Lauren Knatz\, musician\, author\, storyteller\, and believer in the healing power of music\, will take you on a journey of restoration\, self-discovery and self-reflection\, specially designed for caregivers\, and give you the tools to: \n· Unlock the musical memories within the framework of a traditional folk song\n· Explore and record the feelings and images that resonate with spontaneity and curiosity\n· Reconnect with the significant people\, places & events that have given your life meaning & spiritual presence\n· Reexamine past experiences with renewed clarity\, discernment\, and lovingkindness\n· Realign with the power of forgiveness and reconciliation\n· Foster lasting bonds with fellow caregivers through the retelling of shared experiences\n· Uncover universal themes that resonate both personally and collectively\n· Sing together to relieve stress\, build community and increase social bonding\n· Rest and restore with the soothing sounds of live music \nSession 3: Sacred Grieving as Self-Care & Compassion – Wednesday\, August 7th\, 6:30 PM-8:30 PM (Gordon Creamer)\nThe concept of grieving loss as a journey allows human beings to understand the healing process in stages\, with accompanying tasks\, and with needs that are both universal and unique. Yet\, there are many faces to grief and innumerable ways of expressing it. And\, the experience of caregiving for loved ones and clients involves its own dimensions of engaging with the landscape of loss and the numerous ways it can impact our identities\, abilities\, and ways of connecting with ourselves and others in definitive ways. \nThe reality of caregiving\, the myriad emotions it creates\, and the constant demands it requires offer us an opportunity to recognize our feelings and reflect upon our experiences with validation. Moreover\, processing this all through a lens of grief can empower individuals to access necessary healing in order move forward in empowered ways on their journey while still tending to loved ones or clients as caregivers. \nJoin Gordon Creamer\, Program Director at Well for the Journey\, Spiritual Director\, and experienced retreat and workshop leader\, for this third session that incorporates a spiritual approach to the grief work that is intrinsic to caregiving. As we gather together\, we will engage in opportunities for storytelling and listening\, meditation and journaling\, and other meaningful exercises. Various educational and self-care resources will be offered to uplift participants on their journey as they consider their respective circumstances in light of the sacred tasks inherent to grieving while caregiving. And\, in solidarity with other caregivers\, take steps toward openness to the powerful transformation that losses and intentional grief work can lead us to\, both within our caregiving roles and daily lives. \n\nSession 4: Caregiving and the Love Languages: Understanding & Creating Meaning – Monday\, August 19th\, 6:30 – 8:00 PM (Gordon Creamer)\nThe reality of caregiving in this era is one that often includes exhaustive to-do lists\, never-ending appointments and adjustments\, and striving to meet ever-changing demands. And\, it’s more than obvious that the experience of this is not conducive to the critical time needed for personal reflection upon the meaning of our exchanges with those for whom we are caregiving. In our fourth session of this series\, we will explore the innovative concept of the five love languages as described by Gary Chapman and how it can be applied to us as individuals as well as the relationships we encounter as caregivers for loved ones or patients. We will also consider the groundbreaking work that Chapman and co-authors\, Deborah Barr and Ed Shaw\, have created in connecting the world of love languages to the harsh realities of caregiving\, especially for those with dementia and other life-limiting conditions. By weaving in various concepts and creative exercises from their text\, Keeping Love Alive As Memories Fade: The Five Love Languages and the Alzheimer’s Journey\, you will be invited to expand in understanding your own personal love language\, that of the person you are caring for\, and also what related possibilities exist for deeper meaning and renewal in your life and caregiving. \nJoin Gordon Creamer\, Program Director at Well for the Journey\, Spiritual Director\, and experienced retreat and workshop leader\, for this final session in our Soul Care for the Caregiver series. As we gather together\, we will engage in opportunities for storytelling and listening\, meditation\, and journaling among other spiritual-oriented exercises. Information about the love languages and diverse opportunities for their integration will be introduced to empower you as you reflect upon your respective circumstances in light of caregiving with love. This final session will provide a safe\, sacred space for you to re-envision your daily tasks\, multi-faceted lives\, and inherent desire to be loving in your current caregiver situation and within your ongoing journey ahead. We hope you can join us! \nCOST: Cost per session varies (see registration form at link below.) \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Honoring the Gifts of Summer: A Sacred Circle Dance Gathering for Women (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome back Lisa Bardack\, Sacred Circle Dance Facilitator\, for another sacred circle dance gathering at the Well! \nSacred circle dance is a collective dance experience that draws from ancient and traditional folk dances\, many from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Dancing to wonderful music and rhythms\, we join the circle of grandmothers who initiated these dances and passed them on. Dancing in their footsteps\, we experience a sense of something greater than ourselves\, a continuum of which we are a sacred part. The dances evoke joy\, peace\, insight\, healing and a powerful sense of community and interconnection with each other and all life. \nBorn from the Earth\, these dances connect us to the rhythms of the seasons and the cycles of life. Moving as one to encoded energy patterns\, we learn about our basic relationships of being in our bodies\, being on Earth\, being in community and being present to the source of all life. \nIn this workshop\, we will dance to honor the gifts of Summer\, the active season of joy\, the season of the heart. We will dance\, too\, to honor the arrival of Late Summer\, a season that sits between the fullness of summer and the beginning of autumn. We will dance between the energies of joy and abundance\, and the need to ground and center\, allowing for time to stop the wheels of our ‘doings’ and simply ‘be’\, allowing for time to reflect on where we are and observe the nourishing experiences we’ve created in our lives. \nNo dance experience is required (just basic mobility and coordination)\, as the dances are simple to moderately easy\, and the step sequences repetitive. Lisa will gently guide us in the dance steps and share meaningful information on the origins of each dance. You can dance in bare feet\, socks\, or soft soled shoes. \nIf you love to dance\, or perhaps love the idea of sacred dance and are curious to learn more\, come and enjoy a beautiful afternoon of movement meditation in the safe and nurturing environment that is the Well! Registration is limited to 8 participants\, so please don’t delay! \nDATE: Saturday\, July 27\, 2024 \nTIME: 2:00 – 4:00 PM \nCOST: $45 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Lisa Bardack \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nLisa Bardack\, Sacred Circle Dance facilitator\, has been dancing most of her life\, feeling a deep sense of authenticity with this art form. It was in 1997 that she first experienced Sacred Circle Dance and fell in love with this collective experience of dancing ancient and traditional steps to wonderful music from around the world. She has studied Sacred Circle Dance for over 15 years through classes and conferences nationally and internationally and has been teaching since 2008. In addition to her background in dance\, Lisa has also studied yoga\, tai chi\, qigong\, NIA\, and other forms of dance\, cultivating a seasoned understanding of body movement as an instrument for joy\, healing\, and wisdom.

Thank you! \nFACILITATORS: \nJudy Wright\nJudy Wright is a retired nurse\, a Spiritual Director\, wife\, and mother of two adult children. She worked for 50 years as an R.N after graduating Nursing School from Church\, Home\, and Hospital. At the age of 65\, she obtained her M.A. from Loyola University\, Maryland and became a Spiritual Director. To Judy\, spiritual direction is not truly directing\, but rather sitting with\, and guiding someone who is searching for a new and deeper spiritual life. Thus\, she sees herself as a midwife\, being alongside those who are open to birthing a new relationship with the Divine. \nJudy is also an active Episcopalian\, serving her local church in various ways on the vestry\, as a Eucharistic Minister\, a member of the prayer group and St. Luke’s ministry\, and a spiritual facilitator of a weekly woman’s group\, Additionally\, she has been part of the Diocesan Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland\, a co-chair of the Reparations Committee\, and is presently a co-chair of the Commission of Ministry. Judy also serves on the Board of Directors for the Well for the Journey and as Chairperson of the Program Circle. \nLauren Knatz\nLauren Knatz has performed acoustic guitar with vocal accompaniment for seniors\, hospice patients and special needs populations for over twenty years. She is an author\, folk musician\, and storyteller\, who collects the stories and favorite music of those residing in all levels of care in Central Pa and Md. \nLauren is a strong advocate for those living with life altering conditions and her work focuses on using music as a tool to give voice to the memories stored within the context of a song. She believes that a song can be compared to an individual’s life – when you understand the inspiration and historical context behind a song\, the notes resonate with deeper clarity. Similarly\, when we are empowered to reflect upon our own lives\, we begin to recognize each turning point as a channel to greater peace and understanding. \nLauren’s work has gained the recognition of York Hospital Family Medicine\, where she has presented to resident doctors integrating Narrative Medicine\, a person-centered\, clinical approach from Columbia University that honors the narrative of the patient to improve communication\, instill empathy\, and promote healing. \nGordon Creamer\nGordon Creamer\, creator of The Mission Bridge \, joined the Well’s Staff in July 2022 as Program Director. He has been involved in healthcare programming and operations since 2001 at various Assisted Living\, Skilled Nursing\, and Hospice communities. He earned an MA in Spiritual & Pastoral Care from Loyola University and an MA in Theology from the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary & University. He is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Ecumenical Institute.\nGordon has facilitated numerous retreats and workshops that focus on creating opportunities for participants to explore and enhance their spirituality and well-being through various media and practices. Uplifting the journey of adults\, individuals with memory impairment\, and members of the LGBTQ+ community is a passion for him. In the last several years\, he has fostered support groups and programs for caregivers and those who are grieving losses. Gordon is also a trained end-of-life doula\, certified spiritual director\, and Reiki Practitioner\, who welcomes all in discovering the spiritual life as a means of healing\, growing\, and thriving.

SUMMARY:Writing to Heal (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Lindsey Pope is the author of five books\, a speaker and workshop leader\, and a busy mom who is passionate about sharing love\, laughter\, and healing through writing. She developed Writing to Heal based on her own experience coming out of a mental health crisis battling severe anxiety and depression. Research has shown that journaling positively affects people’s mental health by lowering anxiety\, stopping rumination cycles\, and increasing self-awareness (source: www.webmd.com/mental-health/mental-health-benefits-of-journaling ). While writing is a free activity that can be done at any time and any place\, some people need a little help getting started. \nLindsey provides engaging exercises and writing prompts to help people get started in a way that’s comfortable for them\, while also encouraging participants to open up in an emotionally safe environment. Participants will engage in a variety of individual and group exercises and also learn strategies to continue this practice on their own time. SUMMARY:Honoring Late Summer\, Preparing for Fall: A Sacred Circle Dance Gathering for Women (In-Person Program)
\nIn Traditional Chinese Medicine\, Earth is the element associated with the season of late summer. As we move from the more yang/outward energy of summer toward the more yin/inward energy of fall\, the Earth provides us with the nourishment and grounding we need to help with this seasonal transition. In this circle dance gathering\, we will dance to honor Earth’s abundance\, generosity\, and support. As the fall equinox nears\, we’ll explore the dance between being and doing in an often busy season and acknowledge the need to let go of that which no longer serves us to create space for the new. \nDATE: Saturday\, September 14\, 2024 \nTIME: 2:00 – 4:00 PM \nCOST: $45 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W.

SUMMARY:Welcoming Fall - A Mindful Outdoor Experience (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:In our society\, we spend a lot of time inside and in front of a screen. Chances are good you are reading about this program on a screen within four walls right now. Yet we are part of creation\, and our bodies and spirits instinctively crave a connection with the great outdoors. Spending time in nature promotes an increased sense of relaxation and supports the body’s capacity for overall wellness and healing. \nWe are pleased to welcome back certified Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and Yoga Instructor\, Jamila Keita\, for a Mindful Outdoor Experience (MOE) at the Well as we connect to the season of Fall. Participants must have moderate mobility and be capable of walking on a wooded path. \nDATE: Friday\, September 20\, 2024 \nTIME: 11:30AM – 1:30PM \nCOST: $30 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W.

SUMMARY:Free: Worship in the Wild (In-Person Program - Oregon Ridge)
DESCRIPTION:During Covid\, many of us experienced communal worship in new ways\, mostly through on-line alternatives and outdoors. We grew accustomed to experiencing worship that wasn’t attached to a particular sacred building or in-person with others not in our household. Our experience of worship expanded and with it our freedom to recognize the sacred in many worship spaces. \nPlease join us this Fall for “Worship in the Wild” at beautiful Oregon Ridge Park in Hunt Valley. Our leaders for this alternative worship experience\, Scott Slater and Greg Cochran\, have long and rich histories in traditional pulpits and in the great outdoors! \nScott and Greg will combine their passion for nature with their experience of worship to gently move us along a trail where the “worship space” changes and encourages our sense of spirituality in nature. Inclusive and expansive language will be intentionally used that invites participants to think more broadly about how we understand terms such as God or Spirit. The order of service will be loosely structured and based on historic Christian Sunday worship patterns\, but with broader\, more inclusive\, and non-Christian specific language. Inspirational readings will come from a variety of sacred spiritual traditions. \nWe will gather at the Oregon Ridge Nature Center. The ability to walk for a mile and stand for ten minutes at a time along the trail is required. Please dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes. This offering is free\, but please register for planning purposes and so that we can notify you if worship is cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstance. Thank you! \nDATE: Sunday\, September 22\, 2024 \nTIME: 3:00 – 4:00PM \nCOST: FREE \nLOCATION: Oregon Ridge Nature Center\, 13555 Beaver Dam Road\, Cockeysville\, MD 21030 \nRSVP is required; please RSVP HERE: \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from lorie@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. Thank you! \nFACILITATORS: Scott Slater and Greg Cochran \nFACILITATOR BIOS: \nScott Slater:\nScott is a retired Episcopal priest and founding member of Well For the Journey. An avid outdoor enthusiast\, he spent most Sunday mornings during Covid out walking his dog and listening to church services online as he walked. He recently experienced a worship service at an ecumenical monastery that emphasized inclusive and expansive language that inspired him to offer this worship alternative through the Well. \nScott lives in Towson with his spouse but is often traveling throughout the country in his motorhome and going on amazing walks and hikes in many different inspiring settings. \nGreg Cochran:\nGreg has been the Executive Director at Well for the Journey since 2010. He is a graduate of Clemson University and Southern Seminary. Greg was Associate Pastor at Woodbrook Baptist Church serving from 1988-2022. He also is a program/retreat facilitator and a spiritual companion. He completed the Shalem Institute’s Spiritual Guidance Program (SGP) in 2009 and is currently a SGP staff member. SUMMARY:Group Spiritual Direction 2024-2025 with Cathy Rosensteel (In-Person & Online)
DESCRIPTION:Group Spiritual Direction is a process in which people gather together on a regular basis to assist one another in an ongoing awareness of God (Spirit\, Source\, Creator\, whatever your name is) in all of life. Participants in the group are seeking support for their responsiveness to God and they agree to support others in that same responsiveness. This contemplative approach to spiritual direction is grounded in the model that originated at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington\, DC. . \nJoining the group is a deep commitment to one’s spiritual journey and to the other participants in the group. Three conditions are essential to the life of the group. Members must agree to: \n· Commit themselves to an honest relationship with God\, by whatever name called.\n· Participate wholeheartedly in the group process through consistent attendance and prayerful listening and response.\n· Open their spiritual journeys for consideration by others. \nThe group is limited to five participants and is facilitated by Cathy Rosensteel. The group will meet both in-person at the Well and on Zoom as noted below. \nCathy’s group has space for one new person this year. SUMMARY:Sound Soul Weaving: Bridging\, Reflecting\, Discerning\, and Connecting with Self\, Spirit & Community (In-Person Sound Bath)
DESCRIPTION:The practice of sound bathing has gained popularity recently but is actually a healing practice that is thousands of years old with deep roots in cultures around the world. Jenny Ehrhardt has been facilitating sound offerings for the past two years\, incorporating her first love as an herbalist into all that she offers. Integrating sound using crystal chakra bowls\, bells\, song\, and rattles with plants and sweetness from the earth\, opens our hearts and nourishes the soul for the healing of the world. What a perfect combination for the Well community and all who seek soul nourishment and healing for self and others! \nJenny will offer a time of stillness\, sacred listening\, reflection\, and alignment with spirit in the safe and sacred space of the Well. Being able to go deep into yourself while also being in community allows us to take care of ourselves as well as send love and peace out into the world through our vibrations\, prayers and the collective spiritual intention of a sacred community. \nWe will begin with a time of introduction and honoring of each participant\, inviting plant spirit connection to our intentions/prayers and sound healing meditation. Healing sound helps break up trauma in the body and assists in releasing whatever no longer serves us. This is so important in our culture and world today. At the end of the session\, Jenny will share seasonal herbal tea and a sweet offering to help integrate and embody the experience. \nWe are thrilled that Jenny found the Well (literally in her own neighborhood!) and is sharing her gifts of love and presence now as part of the Well community. We invite you to join Jenny and trust this ancient healing process of soul sound weaving for the renewal of your body\, mind and spirit and the nourishment of your soul. \nPlease Note: This session will last 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the number of participants. \nDATE: Sunday\, September 29\, 2024 \nTIME: 4:00 – 6:00 PM (1.5-2 hours) \nCOST: $45 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Jenny Ehrhardt \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nOver the Last two years I have been fortunate to work with two other women facilitating sound offerings on the Eastern Shore. I have seen so many beautiful effects this work has had on so many people\, including myself. I feel honored to be working with the bowls and other sounds to help connect us to something much deeper\, Ourselves. Working with all ages on many different levels\, I see the peace come over most people in a very surprising way. I have been called to create small\, intimate sound offerings right here in my hometown. I am grateful to have found Well for the Journey\, which has been such a sacred place for me this past year. I work deeply with the plants as well and had a small shoppe in Hampden for over 10 years. I have been called to service and I love plants\, sound\, and people who are open to change and learning and being in a community without judgement. Pure Hearts\, I feel this at Well For the Journey and look forward to connecting more and sharing and learning through sound and the plants.

SUMMARY:A Family Mindful Outdoor Experience: “Mind-Body-Spirit” (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Jamila Keita has been leading creative Mindful Outdoor Experience (MOE) sessions and deeply relaxing Yoga Nidra sessions for adults at the Well for the past year. We are excited to share that\, this Fall\, Jamila will be bringing families together outdoors at the Well to reconnect with nature and create a pathway to better wellness. \nChildren experience stress\, loneliness and other emotions just like adults. And\, just like adults\, they have to learn how to recognize and handle those emotions. A regular dose of nature walks and other outdoor activities teaches people of all ages how to remedy complex and challenging emotions without medication. \nThe best way to learn from nature is to be outside in nature. In this MOE\, adults and children ages 5 to 12 will learn to use their mind-body-spirit to begin the process of “re-wilding” with what nature offers to us. Spending time together as a family creates a lasting experience that we build upon each time we partake at “nature’s table.” \nWe will engage in age-appropriate nature-driven practices to awaken the senses and develop connections with the “more than human world\,” gentle yoga movement to breathe\, stretch & strengthen\, and guided meditation practices to release stress\, relax the mind and promote good emotional health. \nWear comfortable clothes to allow free movement and good shoes for walking a wooded path. Use sunscreen and insect repellent. Bring a blanket/yoga mat to sit on the ground and water to drink. \nPlease join us with the children\, grandchildren\, nieces\, nephews\, or other young people in your life. We all need to get outside and take a breath! \nDATE: Sunday\, October 6\, 2024 \nTIME: 1:00 – 2:30 PM \nCOST: 1 Adult + 1 Child-$40; 1 Adult + Children – $45; 2 Adults + 1 Child – $50; 2 Adults + Children – $55 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W.

SUMMARY:Horizons Men's Group - 2024-2025 (In-Person Program with Online Option)
DESCRIPTION:Most men do not feel they can talk freely about their spiritual journey. At the Well\, we feel differently. The Well’s Horizons Men’s Group is a place where honest conversations take place about how we live out our spirituality uniquely as men in the world – within our daily living. Past discussions have included the deconstruction and reconstruction of faith\, the first and second halves of life\, spirituality and imperfection\, why do bad things happen to good people\, and what can we learn from other faith traditions – just to name a few! \nThis season we will use Richard Rohr’s book\, Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life\, to help us enter a time of deeper conversations and a growing community. \nIf you are looking for a community where hard questions are welcomed and explored\, we have a place for you. Horizons meets on the third Tuesday of each month (October – June)\, from 7pm – 8:30pm. We will meet in-person with the option to “zoom in” for those who may not live close by or for those for whom “zooming” is more comfortable. Come check us out!\n\nDATE: Tuesdays – 10/15\, 11/19\, 12/17/24\, and 1/21\, 2/18\, 3/18\, 4/15\, 5/20\, and 6/17/25 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET \nCOST: $195 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Deep in Autumn\, Whispers of Winter: A Sacred Circle Dance Gathering for Women (In-Person Program)
\nFall is a season that shines with beauty and abundance. The leaves astonish us with their breathtaking colors. It’s a time of pumpkins and apples\, the smell of fire from a neighbor’s chimney. We naturally move toward deeper reflection in this season. In Traditional Chinese Medicine\, Fall is the time to look at our lives and see what truly nourishes us and our community\, and what gets in the way of our thriving. To let go of what no longer serves to make way for the new. Fall is also an active season! Life picks up the pace. This is where we will reflect on the coming gifts of Winter\, the season of stillness and deep listening. Together\, we will dance wonderful dances honoring these seasonal reflections and gifts! \nDATE: Saturday\, November 2\, 2024 \nTIME: 2:00 – 4:00 PM \nCOST: $40 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W.
