SUMMARY:Beloved Words: A Mosaic Workshop for Creative Renewal (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:JOY. HOPE. PEACE. LOVE. \nMore than ever\, such words are simple but powerful reminders of what’s most important\, beacons to guide our inner light when life is overwhelming. In the midst of troubling times\, an important aspect of self-care is the search for creative pursuits that fill us with joy and center us for our journeys. This workshop will explore the many ways that engaging in creative endeavors can nourish our spirits\, invigorate our minds\, calm anxiety\, and reduce stress — while we take joy in the process. \nThe pure magic of mosaic making will enable us to carve out sacred time with ourselves and others. We will create mosaic words—JOY\, HOPE\, PEACE\, OR LOVE— with an array of materials from my workshop in a myriad of colors and textures. We’ll choose from stained glass\, ceramic tiles\, bright baubles\, pebbles\, costume jewelry\, mirrors\, and much more. Whimsical sample fonts will be available for forming your chosen word. \nStorytelling and sharing of quotes will add a depth of camaraderie as we share strategies and favorite creative pursuits that nourish our souls and our work in the world. Participants are asked to bring a favorite quote or short poem related to one of our words (Joy\, Hope\, Peace\, Love) to share during our time together\, and at least one item to embed in your mosaic. This rich exploration will live on in the inspiration taken from our mosaic words each day. Creative endeavors can’t “fix” the world\, but they can rejuvenate us! They contribute to keeping us balanced\, healthy\, energized\, and ready to do our part toward bringing a more loving community into being. \nCommunity mosaic artist Cinder Hypki brings years of experience guiding groups in creative activities for celebration\, exploration and healing. She brings her mobile mosaic studio to the Well\, offering a sumptuous feast of materials for memorializing in mosaics. We are delighted to welcome Cinder back for her fifth mosaic offering at the Well. No prior experience with mosaics or any art form is required to participate. Cinder will guide every step of this joyful\, creative\, and life-giving process. \nTo learn more about Cinder and her amazing work\, please visit her at “Cinder Mosaic Studio” on Facebook. \nDATE: Sunday\, May 3\, 2026 \nTIME: 1:00 – 5:00 PM \nCOST: $100 + $25 Supply Fee \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:FREE: Death Café at Well for the Journey (In-Person in Lutherville\, MD)
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to talk about death but were afraid to bring up the subject with friends or family? At a Death Cafe people\, often strangers\, gather to eat cake\, drink tea and discuss death. \nWell for the Journey is pleased to sponsor a Death Café with Sam Stebbins\, certified end-of-life doula\, grief educator and coach\, interspiritual counselor\, retired family physician\, and experienced Death Café facilitator. \nA Death Cafe is a gathering where people discuss their feelings and thoughts about death and their experiences with death. Hot tea and sweet treats are included to remind us of comfort and sweetness even in difficult times. \nThe discussions that will unfold cover a wide range of topics related to death\, dying\, and grief based on what participants bring. Please be aware that it is not a grief support group. A Death Café is simply an opportunity to normalize conversations about death\, which is an essential part of every life\, and to increase awareness of death with a view to helping make the most of our time on this earth. \nThere are no expectations except to be supportive of each other and open to everyone’s individual interpretations\, ideas\, hopes\, fears\, and beliefs about this life and death situation we are all currently living in. As Marcus Aurelius said: “It is not death that man should fear\, but he should fear never beginning to live.”  \nPlease bring a spirit of curiosity and wonder to explore these topics in the comfort and intimacy of the Well. This gathering is FREE\, but space is limited. Please register early and let us know if your plans change so we can offer your seat to someone else. \nFor more information about Death Cafés\, please visit their website. \nDATE: Wednesday\, May 6\, 2026 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM \nCOST: FREE \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Group Spiritual Direction: Listening for the Sacred Together (In-Person with online sessions in winter)
DESCRIPTION:“I have been a part of this group for two years. Once a month\, I find respite in my busy life to connect with the divine as I understand it. Cathy holds a container that allows for deep reflection in community with other spiritual seekers.” – Rev. Karyn Marsh \n________________________________________________________ \n“We are all just walking each other home.” \n– Rumi \nDo you yearn for a deeper connection to God\, Spirit\, the Divine? Perhaps you sense an inkling that there is something more wanting to be explored – whether you come from a formal faith tradition or none at all. \nGroup Spiritual Direction (GSD) offers a safe\, sacred space for individuals to gather in community\, slow down\, and listen deeply—for the movement of the Spirit in their lives and in each other. Unlike therapy or problem-solving groups\, spiritual direction is a contemplative practice rooted in the belief that the Divine is already present and available in each person’s journey. \nIn this group\, faith traditions vary in formality and intensity\, some may have none\, and their name for God may differ\, but all are deeply committed to exploring their spiritual paths and supporting the spiritual journeys of each group member. The intent is not to ‘fix’ or advise\, but to listen attentively\, and as members caringly share what they feel and hear\, they help each other look\, with a finer lens\, at their own spiritual relationship. Gently guided by long-time Spiritual Director\, Cathy Rosensteel\, the group cultivates compassion\, connection\, and clarity\, helping each person notice the movement of Spirit in their lives. \nSeptember through November and March through May\, Cathy’s group starts their time together with a few minutes of conversation in the kitchen at Well for the Journey. During the colder months\, December – February\, they gather on Zoom from the coziness of their homes. When at the Well\, the group transitions from the kitchen to the living room to form a contemplative\, confidential and sacred listening circle. Using the GSD process formed at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington\, DC.\, Cathy invites the group with an opening reflection from a variety of sources\, such as\, Scripture\, poetry\, texts\, and/or prose and a time of gentle silence. When ready\, members share a response flowing from their deep listening and curiosity. This simple format\, repeated throughout each session\, invites meaningful conversation and deepening. The session closes with the sharing of prayer intentions. \nWhether you’re seeking a deeper relationship with the Sacred by whatever name\, navigating a life transition\, in need of discernment\, curious about that nagging inkling\, or simply yearning to be seen and heard in a soulful way\, GSD provides a space for deep listening\, soulful reflection\, and support for your unfolding path. \nIf you would like to join Cathy’s group or simply want to know more\, please contact the Well at 410-296-9355 or email us at programming@wellforthejourney.org. Please provide your name and phone number and Cathy will be in touch to discuss your interest. \n________________________________________________________ \n\n“I have been a member of Cathy’s spiritual direction group since the fall of 2020. Each session I jot down what speaks to me. Recently I went back and typed up my notes and then created this word cloud. Every session sparks deeper thinking and honest reflection for me. I look forward to our gathering each month.” – Becky Boynton \n \nDATES (In-Person at the Well): Saturdays – 9/13\, 10/11\, 11/8/25 and 3/14\, 4/11\, 5/9/26 \nDATES (Online via Zoom): Saturdays – 12/13/25 and 1/10\, 2/14/26 \nTIME: 8:30 – 11:30 AM \nCOST: $250 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 and ZOOM \nTO REGISTER: Please contact the Well at 410-296-9355 or email us at programming@wellforthejourney.org.  We will put you in touch with Cathy so that you may chat and determine if  this program is a mutual fit.  Once that happens and if you’d like to move forward\, we will provide you with a sign up link. \nFACILITATOR: Cathy Rosensteel \nFACILITATOR BIO:\nCathy facilitates group spiritual direction in the Shalem tradition at The Well. She has an M.A. in Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Care from Loyola University Maryland. Kindled by a week-long silent Ignatian retreat\, she developed a deep appreciation for silence and the Spiritual Exercises. Furthering her interest\, she completed the 19th Annotation of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life. Her work in this area includes leading retreats on finding silence in everyday living and walking the labyrinth. Through private practice\, Cathy is honored to provide individual spiritual direction in the Middle River and Towson areas. \nCathy’s background includes teaching teacher education candidates and directing the Special Education programs at Loyola University Maryland. She also had a notable career developing innovative programs for students with special needs\, as a teacher and administrator with the Baltimore City Public School System. \nDrawn to the outdoors\, Cathy treasures time at home on Seneca Creek with her husband and dog. She enjoys designing engraved affirmation stones\, gardening\, and swimming. Often\, she can be found happily reading\, near or in a body of water\, or just sitting\, very still.

SUMMARY:Rest as Sacred Ground: Replenishing the Ones Who Hold Space (An In-Person Retreat Day for Spiritual Directors/Companions)
DESCRIPTION:Those who hold space for others often carry an unseen weight — offering steady presence\, deep listening\, and compassionate accompaniment day after day. This daylong retreat is an invitation for spiritual directors/companions\, therapists\, and all who offer the gift of sacred companioning to step out of holding and into being held — a day of renewal and replenishment in community and grounded presence. \nSustainable presence begins with embodied centeredness. This is the shared intention for our time together. Through a gentle rhythm of brief teaching\, embodied practices\, guided Yoga Nidra meditation\, vocal toning using our own voices to create healing vibrations for our bodies and spirits\, restorative sound bath\, journaling\, and small group conversation\, you will be offered space to restore your inner reserves and reconnect with sustainable presence. These practices offer accessible ways to soothe the nervous system and tend our souls. \nA community circle of shared reflection will create space to speak honestly about both the beauty and the energetic demands of this sacred work. Practical daily clearing practices will be introduced to support ongoing integration beyond the retreat. This experience is contemplative\, experiential\, and communal — designed to offer simple\, resonant tools while deepening rest\, clarity\, and grounded resilience for those who serve through presence. \nRest is not a luxury for those who hold space—it is the sacred ground from which it is offered. Come as you are. A simple lunch of soup and bread will be provided. \nDATE: Thursday\, May 14\, 2026 \nTIME: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM \nCOST: $70.00 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from programming@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. SUMMARY:The Body Holds\, The Body Heals: Restoring Balance\, Releasing Stress\, Creating Calming Practices (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Are you going through your day feeling overly sensitive\, too reactive\, or easily triggered? Or do you feel numb most days\, simply going through the motions? By the time we are adults\, most of us are walking warriors\, holding stress and trauma in our bodies as we’ve had to survive and simply soldier on. In the short run\, our bodies may be able to do this\, holding it together to get through. However\, over time\, we cannot keep up this pace. Our bodies become overwhelmed as they hold our stressed experiences. They develop pain\, fatigue\, injury\, or disease\, as they can no longer repress all they have held over time. \nJoin certified Somatic Experience Practitioner\, Emily Kearns\, for this retreat that will give your body a break and invite it to begin to rest and heal. The Body Holds\, The Body Heals program provides a safe container for participants to begin to: \n\nidentify how our bodies hold whatever overwhelms such as grief\, trauma\, and stress;\nrelate to our bodies as a resource for calming\, metabolizing\, and integrating what has been held; and\nrespond differently to past and current stress through somatic (body-focused) practices and rituals.\n\nThrough guided meditation\, sitting or walking in nature\, art journaling including collage\, and group sharing\, you will grow your self-care toolbox to begin to experience your body as a resource — reducing stress and generating relaxation in body\, mind\, and spirit. \n\nPlease bring a journal for your reflections. We will be exploring different ways of checking in with and resting our bodies. All of the activities can occur seated\, but if you want the option to lie down or sit on the floor\, please bring a yoga mat\, pillow\, and blanket. \nPlease bring a bag lunch. Coffee\, tea\, and light snacks will be provided. \nDATE: Sunday\, May 17\, 2026 \nTIME: 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM \nCOST: $65 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION for this program is required and will close on 5/8/26. Please register early for planning purposes. Thank you!  REGISTER HERE. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from programming@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Emily Kearns \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nEmily Kearns is a Somatic Experience Practitioner (SEP) and Reiki Master\, working with individuals to help identify and reduce stress and trauma – anything that overwhelms – held in the body. Her caregiving experience with her parents\, who lived with dementia\, sensitized her to how the body holds and also\, how the body heals. Her Reiki volunteer work in Boston’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital’s Integrative Medicine Program\, further awakened her to the power of the body to be a healing\, integrating resource. Emily earned her doctorate in sociology\, focusing her study and teaching on the body\, dance\, and ritual. She is also an installation artist creating two events: Dementia’s Way; and The Sacred Heart of Culture. She is founder of Revive and Thrive\, supporting caregivers/care partners as they experience loss\, grief\, joy\, and cultivate presence.

SUMMARY:Horizons Men's Group 2025-2026 (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Most men do not feel they can talk freely about their spiritual journey. At Well For The Journey\, we feel differently. The Horizons Men’s Group at the Well is a place where honest conversations take place about how we live out our spirituality uniquely as men in the world – within our daily living. \nGreg Cochran\, Executive Director at the Well\, has been facilitating Horizons for over ten years. Past discussions have explored a wide range of topics including the deconstruction and reconstruction of faith\, navigating the first and second halves of life\, spirituality and imperfection\, why do bad things happen to good people\, what is Truth\, and what can we learn from other faith traditions – just to name a few! \nThis season\, the wisdom of Parker Palmer will inform our conversation through two of his books: \nA Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life – explores the concept of living an “undivided life”—where one’s inner truth aligns with their outer actions and roles. \nLet Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation – explores what it means to find one’s true calling by deeply listening to one’s inner self and aligning with one’s authentic nature\, emphasizing that vocation isn’t a specific job title\, but rather a way of living authentically and embracing our unique gifts and limitations. \nDue to high interest\, we are pleased to offer two monthly groups this year – both graciously led by Greg! The Tuesday evening group will meet in-person at the Well and the Thursday evening group will meet online via Zoom. \nIf you are looking for a community where difficult questions are welcomed and explored from the unique perspective of male spirituality\, we have a place for you in Horizons. \nThis registration is for the in-person session on Tuesday evenings. \nDATES: Tuesdays – 10/14\, 11/18\, 12/16/25\, and 1/20\, 2/17\, 3/17\, 4/21\, 5/19\, and 6/9/26 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM \nCOST: $200 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. SUMMARY:Who Do I Say I Am? - Giving Voice to Our Sacred Story (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:I would like to express my deep gratitude to Rev. Sandra. The experience was both insightful and deeply moving.  Listening to each woman share her journey and perspective reminded me of the power that comes from showing up with authenticity and courage. The honesty\, care\, and openness that filled the space created a truly meaningful sense of belonging and connection. It was a gift to witness and be part of such a compassionate and passionate community. I left feeling inspired\, grounded\, and more committed to honoring my own story while making room for the stories of others. – Laura Lindamore \nGreat opportunity for a multicultural spiritual experience that was a beautiful way for soul sisters to connect\, commune and share our stories. – Bev Gorman \nRev. Sandra was a great facilitator and so at ease\, compassionate\, loving\, and Present. Her demeanor set the tone for our time together and for all of us. I’m glad I decided to say “yes” to this workshop! – Freda Marie Brown \n**************************************************************************************************************** \nWhen we reject the single story\, when we realize that there is never a single story…we regain a kind of paradise. – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie \nWe are thrilled to welcome back Rev. Sandra Dorsainvil for an expanded version of her popular retreat—Who Do I Say I Am? Sandra first offered this retreat at the Well as a half-day experience that left participants feeling inspired\, grounded\, and yearning for more. \nOur lives are not linear\, and the world is often too quick to dictate or impose its own lenses on the personal stories we carry. Yet the power of a person’s voice is theirs alone\, and our hearts are privileged to receive their testimonies. We are more than a name\, title\, or circumstance. In this day-long retreat\, we will explore how to choose a story to share that honors our identity\, and how to listen intentionally—without judgement— to the stories of others. \nJesus asked Peter\, “Who do you say that I am?” We are invited into that same sacred question. Let us dare to answer it as we affirm our voice\, our identity\, and our need to belong. \nSandra will gently invite participants to engage in a variety of contemplative practices\, including journaling\, meditative reflection\, creative art\, quiet sitting\, prayer walking\, and group conversation alongside the sanctity of telling and receiving personal\, single stories. As the day unfolds\, participants will be encouraged to courageously express their own voice in answering the question “Who do I say I am?” within a safe and sacred community. \nHow one chooses to share their chosen story is up to them. It may take the form of poetry\, prose\, drawing\, painting\, dance\, or even silent mime. As God’s beloved\, how we receive what is before us is its own testimony. \nIt is up to us to honor our story and share it as we wish it to be remembered. You are warmly welcomed to join Sandra and fellow seekers for this meaningful day of reflection\, creativity\, and connection—a journey of listening\, belonging\, and owning who you are. Please bring a bag lunch. Snacks and drinks will be provided. \nDATE: Saturday\, May 30\, 2026 \nTIME: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM \nCOST: $70 \nREGISTRATION for this program is required and will close on 5/21/26.
