SUMMARY:Group Spiritual Direction: Listening for the Sacred Together (In-Person with online sessions in winter)
DESCRIPTION:“I have been a part of this group for two years. Once a month\, I find respite in my busy life to connect with the divine as I understand it. Cathy holds a container that allows for deep reflection in community with other spiritual seekers.” – Rev. Karyn Marsh \n________________________________________________________ \n“We are all just walking each other home.” \n– Rumi \nDo you yearn for a deeper connection to God\, Spirit\, the Divine? Perhaps you sense an inkling that there is something more wanting to be explored – whether you come from a formal faith tradition or none at all. \nGroup Spiritual Direction (GSD) offers a safe\, sacred space for individuals to gather in community\, slow down\, and listen deeply—for the movement of the Spirit in their lives and in each other. Unlike therapy or problem-solving groups\, spiritual direction is a contemplative practice rooted in the belief that the Divine is already present and available in each person’s journey. \nIn this group\, faith traditions vary in formality and intensity\, some may have none\, and their name for God may differ\, but all are deeply committed to exploring their spiritual paths and supporting the spiritual journeys of each group member. The intent is not to ‘fix’ or advise\, but to listen attentively\, and as members caringly share what they feel and hear\, they help each other look\, with a finer lens\, at their own spiritual relationship. Gently guided by long-time Spiritual Director\, Cathy Rosensteel\, the group cultivates compassion\, connection\, and clarity\, helping each person notice the movement of Spirit in their lives. \nSeptember through November and March through May\, Cathy’s group starts their time together with a few minutes of conversation in the kitchen at Well for the Journey. During the colder months\, December – February\, they gather on Zoom from the coziness of their homes. When at the Well\, the group transitions from the kitchen to the living room to form a contemplative\, confidential and sacred listening circle. Using the GSD process formed at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington\, DC.\, Cathy invites the group with an opening reflection from a variety of sources\, such as\, Scripture\, poetry\, texts\, and/or prose and a time of gentle silence. When ready\, members share a response flowing from their deep listening and curiosity. This simple format\, repeated throughout each session\, invites meaningful conversation and deepening. The session closes with the sharing of prayer intentions. \nWhether you’re seeking a deeper relationship with the Sacred by whatever name\, navigating a life transition\, in need of discernment\, curious about that nagging inkling\, or simply yearning to be seen and heard in a soulful way\, GSD provides a space for deep listening\, soulful reflection\, and support for your unfolding path. \nIf you would like to join Cathy’s group or simply want to know more\, please contact the Well at 410-296-9355 or email us at programming@wellforthejourney.org. Please provide your name and phone number and Cathy will be in touch to discuss your interest. \n________________________________________________________ \n\n“I have been a member of Cathy’s spiritual direction group since the fall of 2020. Each session I jot down what speaks to me. Recently I went back and typed up my notes and then created this word cloud. Every session sparks deeper thinking and honest reflection for me. I look forward to our gathering each month.” – Becky Boynton \n \nDATES (In-Person at the Well): Saturdays – 9/13\, 10/11\, 11/8/25 and 3/14\, 4/11\, 5/9/26 \nDATES (Online via Zoom): Saturdays – 12/13/25 and 1/10\, 2/14/26 \nTIME: 8:30 – 11:30 AM \nCOST: $250 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 and ZOOM \nTO REGISTER: Please contact the Well at 410-296-9355 or email us at programming@wellforthejourney.org.  We will put you in touch with Cathy so that you may chat and determine if  this program is a mutual fit.  Once that happens and if you’d like to move forward\, we will provide you with a sign up link. \nFACILITATOR: Cathy Rosensteel \nFACILITATOR BIO:\nCathy facilitates group spiritual direction in the Shalem tradition at The Well. She has an M.A. in Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Care from Loyola University Maryland. Kindled by a week-long silent Ignatian retreat\, she developed a deep appreciation for silence and the Spiritual Exercises. Furthering her interest\, she completed the 19th Annotation of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life. Her work in this area includes leading retreats on finding silence in everyday living and walking the labyrinth. Through private practice\, Cathy is honored to provide individual spiritual direction in the Middle River and Towson areas. \nCathy’s background includes teaching teacher education candidates and directing the Special Education programs at Loyola University Maryland. She also had a notable career developing innovative programs for students with special needs\, as a teacher and administrator with the Baltimore City Public School System. \nDrawn to the outdoors\, Cathy treasures time at home on Seneca Creek with her husband and dog. She enjoys designing engraved affirmation stones\, gardening\, and swimming. Often\, she can be found happily reading\, near or in a body of water\, or just sitting\, very still.

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Sound Soul Weaving: A Seated Sound Bath Experience (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Once again\, this beloved program has sold out well before its date.  If you’d like to join our wait list for this date\, just in case someone who is registered is unable to attend\, please sign up here.  Otherwise\, we suggest looking ahead to the next two Sound Soul Weaving sessions on April 12 and or June 14  and consider signing up now. \nThe practice of sound bathing has gained popularity recently but is actually a healing practice that is thousands of years old with deep roots in cultures around the world. Jenny Ehrhardt has been facilitating sound offerings for several years\, incorporating her first love as an herbalist into all that she offers. Integrating sound using crystal chakra bowls\, bells\, song\, and rattles with plants and sweetness from the earth\, opens our hearts and nourishes the soul for the healing of the world. What a perfect combination for the Well community and all who seek soul nourishment and healing for self and others! \nWe are thrilled to welcome Jenny back to the Well for another session of healing\, renewal and nourishment. Jenny will offer a time of stillness\, sacred listening\, reflection\, and alignment with spirit that invites us to take care of ourselves as well as send love and peace out into the world through our vibrations\, prayers and the collective spiritual intention of a sacred community. \nYou will be seated for this session which will begin with a time of introduction and honoring of each participant\, inviting plant spirit connection to our intentions/prayers and sound healing meditation. Healing sound helps break up trauma in the body and assists in releasing whatever no longer serves us. This is so important in our culture and world today. At the end of the session\, Jenny will share seasonal herbal tea and a sweet offering to help integrate and embody the experience. \nWe are thrilled that Jenny found the Well (literally in her own neighborhood!) and is sharing her gifts of love and presence now as part of the Well community. We invite you to join Jenny and trust this ancient healing process of soul sound weaving for the renewal of your body\, mind and spirit and the nourishment of your soul. \nPlease don’t delay! Jenny’s Sound Soul Weaving sessions at the Well sell out every time! \nDATE: Sunday\, February 15\, 2026 \nTIME: 1:30 – 3:30 PM \nCOST: $50 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is at capacity; you may join our wait list here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from programming@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Jenny Ehrhardt \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nI have been fortunate to work with two other women facilitating sound offerings on the Eastern Shore. I have seen so many beautiful effects this work has had on so many people\, including myself. I feel honored to be working with the bowls and other sounds to help connect us to something much deeper\, Ourselves. Working with all ages on many different levels\, I see the peace come over most people in a very surprising way. I have been called to create small\, intimate sound offerings right here in my hometown. I am grateful to have found Well for the Journey\, which has become such a sacred place for me. I work deeply with the plants as well and had a small shoppe in Hampden for over 10 years. I have been called to service and I love plants\, sound\, and people who are open to change and learning and being in a community without judgement. Pure Hearts\, I feel this at Well For the Journey and look forward to connecting more and sharing and learning through sound and the plants.

SUMMARY:Horizons Men's Group 2025-2026 (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:Most men do not feel they can talk freely about their spiritual journey. At Well For The Journey\, we feel differently. The Horizons Men’s Group at the Well is a place where honest conversations take place about how we live out our spirituality uniquely as men in the world – within our daily living. \nGreg Cochran\, Executive Director at the Well\, has been facilitating Horizons for over ten years. Past discussions have explored a wide range of topics including the deconstruction and reconstruction of faith\, navigating the first and second halves of life\, spirituality and imperfection\, why do bad things happen to good people\, what is Truth\, and what can we learn from other faith traditions – just to name a few! \nThis season\, the wisdom of Parker Palmer will inform our conversation through two of his books: \nA Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life – explores the concept of living an “undivided life”—where one’s inner truth aligns with their outer actions and roles. \nLet Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation – explores what it means to find one’s true calling by deeply listening to one’s inner self and aligning with one’s authentic nature\, emphasizing that vocation isn’t a specific job title\, but rather a way of living authentically and embracing our unique gifts and limitations. \nDue to high interest\, we are pleased to offer two monthly groups this year – both graciously led by Greg! The Tuesday evening group will meet in-person at the Well and the Thursday evening group will meet online via Zoom. \nIf you are looking for a community where difficult questions are welcomed and explored from the unique perspective of male spirituality\, we have a place for you in Horizons. \nThis registration is for the in-person session on Tuesday evenings. \nDATES: Tuesdays – 10/14\, 11/18\, 12/16/25\, and 1/20\, 2/17\, 3/17\, 4/21\, 5/19\, and 6/9/26 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM \nCOST: $200 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from programming@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. SUMMARY:Breathwork Across Spiritual Traditions and the Practice of Introspective Breathwork™ (In-Person Program)
DESCRIPTION:Introspective Breathwork™\, a form of conscious connected breathwork\, is a therapeutic modality which invites us into deeper relationship with ourselves and our breath. In this session\, Certified Introspective Breathwork™ Facilitator\, Amy Kulesa\, will begin by sharing about approaches to mindful breathing which have been employed by spiritual traditions for millennia around the world. We will explore how these traditions are now supported by scientific research on the beneficial use of deep breathing for regulation of the nervous system and healing trauma. Breath is a bridge between matter and consciousness\, and its intentional\, mindful practice can ease stress and heal nervous system dysregulation and bring us to a greater degree of integrated peace\, embodied presence and self-insight. \nConscious connected breathwork is sometimes called “circular breathing.” This involves deep\, diaphragmatic inhalations followed by natural\, unforced exhalation\, without a pause at the top and bottom of the breath. During the session\, we will breathe this way for an hour\, lying down on a mat or cushion\, to the accompaniment of ambient music. When breathing in this way\, a person is in conscious control at all times of their own experience and can slow down or quicken the breath at any time\, pause to get a drink or use the restroom. The Breathworker\, Amy\, supports the breathers by compassionate and soulful presence: encouraging\, when appropriate\, through verbal prompts or gentle touch (only by prior permission) and holding space before\, during and after the breath session\, allowing each participant adequate time to process their experience. \nThe breath’s integrative benefits are felt as we come into contact through deep presence to ourselves with an embodied experience of our emotions\, memories\, physical tensions and spiritual dimensions. This can allow us to behold ourselves in an expanded way within an enlarged\, more cosmic field of love and unitive consciousness. Conscious connected breathwork can gently support us in healing from stress\, the everyday tensions of our lives and deeper-seated unresolved effects from trauma. The environment for an Introspective Breathwork session is a nurturing\, safe space for self-exploration and coming into a deepened experience of transcendent Love. Each session and each person’s experience is unique\, as the breath facilitates movement of emotional energy up and through into consciousness and release\, and supports inner unity of body\, mind and spirit. \nPLEASE NOTE: This program is being held in the Upper Room at the Well. Participants will need to walk up the stairs to the 3rd Floor. The length of the program will be 2.5 to 3 hours depending upon participant sharing. SUMMARY:Nourishing the Writer’s Soul – A Retreat Day for Writers (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:A writer is someone who uses words to express ideas\, tell stories\, and convey meaning. Writers observe the world around them—and within them—and translate thoughts\, emotions\, and experiences into written form. Their writing may take many shapes: personal journaling\, spiritual reflection\, poetry\, essays\, blogs\, books\, articles\, and so much more. The possibilities are endless! \nAt the Well\, we recognize that writers need rest and renewal on the writing journey. We are pleased to offer two Retreat Days for Writers in 2025 facilitated by writer and retreat leader\, Amy Schmaljohn. With Amy’s gentle and inspiring guidance\, we’ll slow down and enjoy time for rest\, reflection and companionship with fellow writers on the journey. We’ll recharge our creative energies. We’ll share some experiences from our lives and practice as writers. We’ll have some fun and laughter along the way.   \nThis day is not intended as a writers’ workshop to read and refine writing that is emerging in our lives\, but rather to connect to the creative spark within each of us and to kindle a bit of warmth and companionship as we bring those sparks together for the day.   \nThis registration is for the winter retreat offered in February at Well for the Journey. (Save the date for the summer retreat on August 8th at Kything Croft\, a meadow\, stream\, and woodland property in northern Baltimore County.) \nJoin us for this special day of retreat and fellowship. Please bring a bag lunch and\, of course\, a journal and your favorite pen! \nDATE: Saturday\, February 28\, 2026 \nTIME: 9:00am – 4:00pm \nCOST: $75 \nLOCATION: Well for the Journey – 120 W. Seminary Ave\, Lutherville-Timonium\, MD 21093 \nREGISTRATION is required; please register here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from programming@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Amy Schmaljohn \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nAmy Schmaljohn enjoyed a 35 year career as a leader and teacher in both higher education and at Friends School of Baltimore (Quaker). Her classrooms offered students opportunities to explore world literature and art\, movements for nonviolent social transformation\, and the human experience of religion across global traditions. A member of Gunpowder Friends Meeting (Quaker)\, she leads contemplative spiritual retreats in the tradition of the Religious Society of Friends and offers spiritual deepening programs for seekers in the Baltimore region. She is enlivened by the sharing of our stories\, by the mystery and power of the written word\, and by her daily encounters with the natural world just outside her doorstep. Amy and her husband Alan\, a retired virologist\, live in northwestern Baltimore County\, where they steward seventeen acres of woodland\, meadow and streams that have been placed in the Maryland Environmental Trust and serve as a gathering space for those seeking immersive experiences in nature.
