SUMMARY:Spirituality & Sobriety: A Four-Part Exploration of Sobriety as Spiritual Practice (Online Program)
DESCRIPTION:From Dry January to Sober October\, sobriety is increasingly part of a broader cultural and generational shift. From NA beverages on grocery store shelves to thoughtfully crafted mocktails on restaurant menus\, more people are choosing sobriety for a season or a lifetime. And many who choose this lifestyle discover that the choice extends far beyond abstinence\, into a life lived with greater clarity\, presence\, and intention. \nSpirituality & Sobriety is a four-part online series for those who are sober or sober-curious. This program is not a recovery or support group and does not promote or endorse any single path. Instead\, it offers a guided and safe space to explore sobriety as a practice of awareness\, connection\, and alignment with one’s core values. Sobriety\, or the movement toward it\, can bring us into greater clarity about the unfolding nature of our life\, supporting a more honest and compassionate relationship with ourselves and others. \nEach 90-minute session integrates teaching\, embodied awareness practices\, and small group conversation\, with safe space for both shared and private reflection. Participants are invited\, but never required\, to share. The group itself becomes a place to practice being with others differently: listening without fixing\, allowing others to be who they are\, and cultivating being over doing. \nBecause this series invites honest reflection and meaningful conversation\, Session One is required before attending subsequent sessions. We will use that first gathering to establish the shared agreements\, trust\, and practices that help create a safe and grounded space for the conversations that follow. \nThe Four Sessions:\n\nSession One – The Spiritual Side of Sobriety\nWhat does sobriety have to do with spirituality? We’ll explore sobriety as more than abstinence—as a practice that can deepen awareness\, presence\, freedom\, and connection to our inner lives. \nSession Two – Sobriety\, Our Feelings and Our Stories\nSobriety can stir up assumptions\, emotions\, family histories\, and old narratives. We’ll explore how to distinguish what is true for us from the stories we carry about what sobriety means. \nSession Three – Sobriety\, Vulnerability and Honesty\nSobriety asks for honesty—with ourselves and\, sometimes\, with others. We’ll explore the relationship between vulnerability\, courage\, and the compassionate truth-telling that supports a more authentic life. \nSobriety\, Kindness and Self-Compassion\nChoosing sobriety is an ongoing act of care. We’ll explore why kindness and self-compassion are not indulgences\, but foundational spiritual practices for sustaining change\, growth\, and wholeness. \nWhether you are sober or are considering sobriety for a season or a lifetime\, this program offers a thoughtful\, non-prescriptive environment with practical frameworks and language led by an experienced and caring facilitator who knows how to create and hold generative space. Utilizing wisdom from a spectrum of traditions and teachers\, this will be a supportive engagement grounded in curiosity\, respect\, and lived experience. \nDATES: Wednesdays – 1/6\, 1/13\, 1/20 and 1/27/27 \nTIME: 7:00 – 8:30 PM ET \nCOST: $110 for All Four Sessions or $30 per Session \nLOCATION: ZOOM \nREGISTRATION is required. Please register here. \nIMPORTANT: You will receive an email from programming@wellforthejourney.org at least 24 hours in advance of the start of your program. If you are unable to find the email\, please check your SPAM or JUNK email folders. This email will include details to help you prepare for your program including any pertinent handouts\, location information\, and the ZOOM link for online programs. Please be sure you have received and read this email a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the start of the program. Thank you! \nFACILITATOR: Arianne Rice \nFACILITATOR BIO: \nArianne Rice is an ICF Certified Leadership Coach\, facilitator certified in Brené Brown’s The Daring Way\, and ordained Episcopal priest. She works with individuals\, boards\, congregations\, and communities navigating change\, conflict\, and complex leadership challenges. Her work centers on empathy\, courageous communication\, and helping people address what matters most with clarity and purpose.
