Group Spiritual Direction
October 21 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am
Registration is now closed.
Gather once a month to help one another listen for and respond to the presence of God in your life. This contemplative approach to spiritual direction is grounded in the model that originated at the Shalem Institute in Washington, D.C. Group is limited to five people.
Group spiritual direction is focused on spiritual companioning, meaning a small group develops a deeper sense of community and promises to pray for each other. In the gathering time, we are listeners and not advice givers or problem solvers. The Holy Spirit is the actual director so as one shares a story or situation, others listen attentively, spend some time in silence and then offer questions or comments about what they heard, or an image that came to them. It is a discernment model in that we are listening to how God is at work in our lives and we offer that to each other. The sharing stays in the group and remains confidential.
The sharing may be about one’s spiritual journey, e.g. my image of God no longer makes sense and I need a new way of being with God; or a family situation is causing me such worry I do not know how to pray. Or a change in my life is needed. And so on. In all of the situations, we are listening to how God is active, calling us into something new or a new way of being or understanding.
